THE RICHMOND RAILWAY COLLISION.
(jbhuter's telegrams.] Received December 4th, 12.40 p.m. MELBOTJENE, December 4. The total number of those injured by the Bichmond railway accident is now known to exceed fifty, and by some the number is estimated at fully seventy. Many of the sufferers proceeded to their homes. The injured include Mr Taylor, auctioneer, and Mr Pyet his clerk. Mr Dalgety, clerk, had his leg fractured; and Mr Andrew Jack is suffering from severe injury to his head. Miss Berry, daughter of the ex-Premier, is suffering from, a severe shock to her system; and Councillor Cavenagh from internal injuries. Messrs Crowther and Boss are dangerously wounded, and their condition is criticaL Many others are seriously injured. Eeceived December 4th, 2.30 p.m. The Hawthorne collision has proved more serious in its effects than the accident which occurred near Jolimont in August, 1881. : More fatalities, however, were caused by the latter than are likely to arise from Saturday's disaster. The following are the names of the others seriously injured by the Hawthorne collision: —Mr Evilles, injuries to legs and back ant severe shock to the system; Laura Brown, age i twelve, fractured leg; Mr Scorfieli, a tailor, internal injuries, and now in a critical state; Mr Smith, a solicitor, concussion of the brain,; Mrs Lawlor, a lan ila iy, concussion of the spine; Lawrence, a schoolboy of Kew, broken -leg; Mr Cochren, a clerk, fractured ribs. The injuries to the other persons are not of a serious character. Eeceived December sth, 1.20 a.m. Most of the sufferers by the railway accident are now progressing , favorably. The inquest will be opened to-morrow (Tuesday), and after the inquest a Court of Inquiry into the circumstances which led to the collision will be held. The station-master at Hawthorne has been suspended. It is expected that the damages to be awarded to those injured will be much larger t*»»i by the Jolimont accident last year.
