Messrs Finlay, of Victoria, have had the misfortune to lose Saucepan, dam of Haricot, Irish Stew, Fryingpan, &c. A filly foal by Bolton Green, out of Saucepan, will be reared on cow's milk. The Melbourne Cup winner, The Assyrian, has been purchased by Mr S. Agnew, of Tasmania. < Mr Lowe, who is still in England, has made further purchases of blood stock for Borne of the New South Wales studmasters. Among others he has secured a mare named Fair Alice, by Bel. Demonio, from flora by Knight of Kars, from Florence by Velocipede, with a filly at foot by Exminster, at 210 guineas; Bromine, by Wild Oate from Thorwater,byThormanby, at 55 guineas j Gondola, by Paul Jones from Matchlesa, by Stockwell, at 160 guineas; a yearling filly by Wisdom from Quicksilver, by Trumpeter,, at 50 guineas. Mr I/ong has also secured another well bred yearling filly byJßeauclerc from BluelightA bjr Bataplan from Borealia, by Newminster, at 220 guineas. The latter filly is intended to remain iv England for aome time to come, and will most probably be trained for her two-year-old engageJ mente. At the Bendigo J.C. Spring- Meeting, on November 15th, the Sandhurst Cup was won by Mr T. CoSefah h Lord of Clyde, by Bonnie Carlisle, aged, 6st 71b, beating a &e&d of six others. Cassiopeia, a fivc-year-oid daughter of St. Albans, won two of the minor events of the meeting. - In noticing the programme of the Hawke's Bay March Meeting, "Augur" directs the attention of Australians to the many rich prizes now in New Zealand, and " thinks it would pay some of the Victorian racing men to make a tour to the land of the Maori." Sir Thomas Elder on the Prince of Wales' Birthday, at the Morphetville Meeting in Adelaide, won the two-year-old plate and flutter with Land League, a daughter of Gang Forward from Irish Queen by Irish Hong. Mark Adderley, once known as one of the must successful steeplechase jockeys in Victoria, is dead. His wife and family are left almost destitute. MrW. J. Clarke, whese colors have been to the fore in coftrsing and racing in Victoria and elsewhere, returned to the colonies J by the mail steamer /Peshawar. Since bis arrival Mr Clarke has been created a baronet. There is some speculation in Melbourne I over the V.B.C. New Year's Day Meeting. , For the Champion, Navigator and Commotion are the chosen ones, the former having been backed for about £1000 at 2 to 1, while sto 2 is the best price obtainable about Commotion. '• Mr D. S. Wallace, owner of Napper Tandy, Sir Joseph, Calma, Ac,'was dangerously ill when the mail left Melbourne.
