This ,match was resumed about one o'clock to-day. Gardiner and O'Brien, the not out men of yesterday, resuming their places tt the wickets, to the bowling of "Walls iad G. Millington. Gardiner scored 1 off Millington's first over, and 2 off Walla' eecond. O'Brien scored 3, and then Gsrdiner»got a single off Millington. Hβ afterwards hit Walls to the on for a "brace. O'Brien scored 1 off each bowler, and Gardiner added 1. Three to O'Brien off Walls brought 160 up. Gardiner, after adding 2, was bowled by Millington—7—li—l63. Buckland was next man, aad he faced the bowling of Hardy, who h»d taken Walls' place. Hardy" bowled a maiden, but Millington's next over sent Buckland to the right-about— 8—0—163. " Gill filled the vacancy, and [ O'Brien drove Hardy for 4. Gill scored 3 off Millington, and then the bowler bowled a wide. Gill, in Hardy's next over, scored 3, and added another 3 off Millington. A single to each batsman followed. Hewat took the ball, and Gill made a single in his first over, and another off Millington. The batsman kept the field merry for some time, running up the score by 2's and 3'a until Gill was well i caught by Kneen after making the capital score of 31—9—31—208. Lankham was the last man, and made a single off Millington's last ball in the over. Walls was again put on to bowl, and each batsman made a single off his first over. Two singles off Millington, and then the scoring was continued till the total stood at 232, when O'Brien was smartly stumped by Marshall. This left Oamaru 144 to make to save a one innings defeat. Lawry filled the vacancy, but immediately lost his partner Snow, who was bowled by Buckland with a shooter—4—l2 —23—was the score as J. Millington stepped into the breach.. A'run to Lawry off Lankham, and a single to the same batsman off Buckland were added, and then Millington " broke his duck" with a single, following it up with another single off Lankham in the slips. Millington hit Buckland for two, following it up with two more for an off drive. A good hit by Lawry off Lankham produced 4. A single to Millington and a single to Lawry, a bye and two in tiie slips off Buckland brought 40 up. A single was added by the same batsman. A single to each batsman were made in Lankham , s next over, and three singles and a leg-bye * were produced in Buckland's next over. A single to Lawry off Lankham was the next j score. Barton then took the ball from Buckland. Off his first Lawry got a single, and then Millington skied one, which fell into the hands of Gardiner at long-on—s— 9—49. ' Marshall,- the next man, opened with a single. A single to Lawry was followed by Marshall hitting Barton for 2. He directly afterwards skied one to the bowler and retired—6—3—s3. G. Millington joined Lawry, and two singles having been added, Millington was bowled by Lankham—7—l—ss. McDonald came in and a leg-bye was run. Two more were added by Lawry off Lankham. McDonald hit Barton for 2, and then put 1 into Blair's hands at cover point— 61. Hewat joined Lawry, who added two more, and Hewat caving made a single Lawry played one back to the bowler and retired. 9—22—64 was the score, as the last man appeared at the wickets, Cox playing in the place of Hardy, who was absent. A bye was followed by Cox getting a single to leg, and Hewat another to the off. Lankham'a third in the next over proved too much for Hewat, and the innings terminated for a total of 67, Auckland thus winning the match by an innings and 77 runs. •
