KAIAPOI HARBOR BOARD.
TO THB KDITOB OI TBB PBBBS. Sib,—l see in your issue of this day that the Kaiapoi Harbor Board are not aware whether their boundary has been denned or not I may say that four years ago, when I was Mayor and a member of the Harbor Board, on the motion of Mr E. Smethurtt, the Government were asked to defin* the boundaries, whioh they did, which were from Kaiapoi to the tea and a radius of half a mile outside the bar. With referenoe to the harbormaster, we tried, at that time to have control of him, but were told by the Govern* mentthatWAshould have to pay him,and aa the Board had ng> funds for that purpose, we had to abandon the idea. The boundary north has not been defined beyond the foreshore, and I take it that, if the Board gets control of the harbormaster, they will have to put dues on all vessels coming up the river/ in order to pay for his services. Yours, Ac., J. W. Eiiis. Papanui, September 6th, 1882. \ P.S.—The letter defining the boundary is in the hands of the town clerk.
