The Mendelssohn Quintette Olub gave a farewell performance in the Theatre Eoyal to a large audience, and left for Ameiioa by the City of New York. Inquiries made at Tonga removes all hopes of the missing schooner Edith, of Auckland. Among the passengers by the mail steamer for San Francisco were Mr.Manson, of Waltham Watoh Company fame, and Eev. Thomas Forsytb, formerly Premier of the Cloanshirt Ministry. Detective Brennan has gone up to Dargaville to enquire into circumstances connected with the mysterious disappearance of the man Neall, said to have been lost in the bush. At half-pswt eight a fire broke out in the Auckland Market-house, and speedily went to the turret of the building and along the roof, but was got under by the fire brigade. The damage to the market iff about £200 The market was insured in the National office for £3000, the bulk of which is largely reinsured.
