' . Canterbury Horse Market.—At our usual weekly Tatterall'a sale, held last Saturday, 72 horses of various descriptions were catalogued fof the day's auction. These were chiefly made up of hack and light harness hones, of which there was more than the usual number of good sorts. For such there were plenty of buyers, resulting in a olearanca of anything useful at from JEI4 to JBI7 each.' Of oar general entries a considerable number were placed, and the sale on tee whole indicated a better demand for sound good horses of all classes. On Thursday next. March 2nd, we shall hold a special sale of light horses at Tattersall's, selected in the Wanganui district for the Canterbury market. This sate will afford the best opportunity'of seeuringa choice of well- bred good hack and buggy hones that has been met with in Christchurch for many years. Wool, Sheepskins, Fat, Hides, and Tallow Beport —On Thursday, at our Canterbury Wool Stores, we held our usual weekly sale of the above. There was an average attendance of the trade, and prices may be said to bays partially recovered the decline reported during the last

three weeks. We would again draw our clients' attention to the necessity of more care being taken in preserving the sheepskins, as in several instances yesterday lines that should have been worth from 2a to 2s 6d each had to be sold at from Iβ to Is 4d each, this reduction being the result oi carelessness on the part of the butchers or their assistants is not attending-to the condition in which their sheepskins were forwarded for sale, The fat and tallow market is very firm; in fact, values here are now considerably higher than they have been during the last four years- Our catalogue for the day consisted of 1993 sheep and lambs* ekins, 166 bags rough fat, 144 hides and calfskins, 62 bags of wool, and several packages of tallow, all being sold at quotations as under, viz.—Best crossbred pelts, 2a 3d, 2a sd, to 2a 8d each; second quality, Iβ ( 9d. 2b, to 2s 2d each; medium, Is 3d, la sd, to Is 8d each ; beet merino pelts, Is 9d, 2s, to 2s 2d each; second quality and medium, Is, Is 3d, Is sd, to Iβ 8d each; lambskins. The total sate, £9761 ss. Vie have several inquiries fox suitable farms, either for purchase or to rent, and for city freeholds we have asxious buyers for any prominent positions, the low ratea ruling for money and the great facilities afforded at the present time for building, with the certainty of obtaining remunerative rents and the likelihood of a great enhancement in values of city and suburban ftjßehold's, n causing a demand which of late has nit been experienced. Foed ahd Co. report on the lire fltbci market for the week endiig Thursday the 23rd inst., as follewe :—Although the Aldington yards were filled with sheep, there was aa absence of anything like tmtchers qaaliiy and lines at all approaching fitness for eaeerly compefcad for, and eefld at fall values. The wethere were above average store ccndaian, say half-fat, and sold at from 5a 6d to 7s 9d each, a price, we an inclined to think, will leave little or no margin for the grazier.
