32» usual fortnightly meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council waa held last gjgkt at the Council Chambers. Preaent— < Ha Worship the Mayor (in the chair) Ore. Whita, Pavitt, Hall, Langdown, Webber, jojce, Nichols, Forester and Andrew.—A letter was read from Mr E. G. Wright, res•pesgJßg hie efforts to secure representation for the Council on tbe Lyttelton Harbor Board. He thanked the Council for their approval of hi* action.—The report of the Sssboo committee showed that the receipts for the past fortnight had i b9se -6191 2s Bd, and the expenditure! ££814s 3d. The credit balance at the Bank Was £562 16s si. The committee reoomissaded that as a tenant of the Council had defaulted in his rent, the reserve should be re-let, and that the Town Clerk ahould be recognised as the head of tbe employes of the Council, to befheld responsible for the proper performance of the duties of his subordinates. After aome discussion the consideration of tins matter was referred to the jnint committees of work and finances. The report was , then adopted. It was resolved to ask the A. and P. Association for a contribution towards the cost of watering tbe approaches to their grounds during their late show. The report -of tbe works committee stated tins they had instructed tbe foreman of works to proceed with the construction of Disraeli street, and requested further consideration of the question of concrete channeling for the borough. On the motion of Or. Hsu, seconded by Or. Langdown, it waa resolved to request the works oommittee to iofpeet the plans of the building going up for an Oddfellows' Hall, with a view to securing the provision of adequate vomitoriums. This report was also adopted. The seal of the Council waa ordered to, be affixed to a contract for scavengering with Mr Brightlmg. The report of the sanitary oommittee was adopted. Reference was ffiada to a deputation whioh had waited on the Hon, W. Bolleston about the endowment raservet. The proceedings on that occasion were reported in the Press, whioh report having been placed as a-record in the books of the Council, was now taken as read. The deputation had as yet nothing to add to what sppeared in the newspaper. There was no Other business, and the meeting terminated.
