CRICKET.

On Saturday the matoh between the U.C.C. and Lancaster Park Clubs was eommenoed on the Hagley Park ground, the latter going in first. The first over was a singular one—W. Milton was run out from a hit made off the I first ball, then three wides were given and a I four was scored, three of whioh consisted of I overthrows. After this irregular opening the game proceeded, muoh against the Lancaster Park «.'lub until the arrival of Wilding, when runs began to come fast. This player, with Beeves, made a determined stand, and when separated the complexion of affairs was completely changed. McDonald and H. Loughnan followed with good scores, and the innings finally closed for the very respectable total of 162. Of these Beeves contributed 43, Wilding 40, McDonald 23, and H. Loughnan 11. TneU.o.o. then took the wicket, and when time was oailed had made 48, with four wickets down. Oorfe was the prinoipal scorer, with 23. He was well caught at deep square leg by H. Loughnan. The matoh will be continued next Saturday. A full score will be given on the completion of the game. On the ground of the M.C.O. the eleven of that club tried conclusions with the next eighteen. The Eleven went in first and made 128, of whioh Strange contributed 34, Fowler 24, Fowke 23, Fuller 13, and Watson 20 not out. The Eighteen had just commenced their innings when the stumps were drawn. The matoh will be continued next Saturday. On the College ground the Eleven of the College played the Addington Club. The result was a draw, the first innings not being played out, and the matoh being only a one day's affair, owing to the College breaking up so soon. Addington went in first, and totalled 93,Wheatley, Baker and Turner all scoring, the latter putting together 38, The College then went in, and when time was called had made 78, with eight wickets down. Of these 25 fell to Bridge and 15 to W. Cotterill. On the Lancaster Park ground the seoond eleven of the U. 0.0. and Lancaster Park Clubs tried oonolusions. The scoring waa not heavy, the U.C.C. only puttng together 68 for their first innings, and the Lancaster Park 62 for theirs. For the U.C.O. Wood made 14 and B. Harman 14. For the Lancaster Park Souter and Meurioe were the most successful operators. The U. 0.0. then commenced their seoond innings, and scored 36 with one wioket down when the stumps were drawn. Of these B. Harman made 22 not out. The match will be resumed next Saturday. To-morrow, a matoh will be played on the Association ground, whioh is looked forward to with some interest interest in certain circles. The Operatic Oompany will pit themselves against a team representing the Press of Christchurch. As the former are known to have some excellent players amongst their number a good oontest may be expected. The following are the teams :—Press—Messrs Atsck (2), Main waring, Sims, Smith, Cant, Atquitb, Brunt, Hasial, Connor, and French. Opera—Messrs Turner, Farley, Gordon, Hall (captain), Thompson (2), Devereaux, Cox, Shannon, Gorman, Balfour; emergency, Benham. The matoh will begin at 11.30 a.m., and we have been requested to state that there will be no lunch on the ground.
