Joseph Stanton, owner of two dogs "above the- prescribed age, atated- he had been under the impression the registration had been made. The evidenoe' showed that there had been neglect. Sergeant Gilbert, smiling, remarked that defendant was a member of the; town counoil, which wished the provisions of the Act enforced. The Resident Magistrate .observed that in that ease it would be enforced _y defendant being fined 10s eaoh dog. j ' Lio_B_nr& Act.—Patrick Kearney, licensee I Jtaeyd's Arms Hotel, was charged with having ph Sunday, November 20th, supplied one -Timothy Murphy, he not being a bona fide. lodger, with a quart of beer, and alao with having supplied him with the same whilst Murphy was in a state of intoxication. Accused—l admit Murphy had some drink on him but he wail not drunk. Sergeant Gilbert —In company with Constable Johnston, I went to the hotel »t 9 p.m. on the day named. 11 saw two men coming out, one of whom was Murphy wit_ a can of bear in his hand. He was in a atete of intoxioation.By Accused —Murpby was iaore than under the influence of the drink., but not so bad that I head take him in! custody. Constable Johnston gave aimilar; evidonce. By Acoused—Saw Murphy go into' the hotel. _*id not ace him oome out for; sometime. Murphy was not just standing at the door. By Besident Magistrate— Murphy lives two chains from the hotel. ..Accused sworn, stated—l have been serving .few .and so on to Murphy's family ai-Ce; Ootober. I had an order from the doctor to do so. r The beer was for hia family. He has a sick daughter. By Sergeant Gilbert— Knew", Murphy too well. He, receives charitable aid for his daughter. The doctor ; ordered stout, but when she gets tired of that I give them beer or shandygaff or port wine.; Could not say if Murphy waa of intemperate' habits. Thought he was a lazy man. Did; not think Murphy had spent 20s in the house the whole time he had. been there. To the: Besident Magistrate—Had been six months \ in the business, and was about sell—g it; in. fact, the arrangementfl would probably be j completed next day. The Besident Magistrate aaid there was no doubt the _ot had been \ violated, and Jin both cases the breach had: been proved. Several oomp—inta had been, made of the drinking going on at thia hotel, and it had been stated that there were more; beer and spirits sold there on Sunday than; any other day of the- week. It had been oonducted in a reckless manner, and utterly; regardless! of the terms of the license. He waa glad the licensee waa going away. He would, be fined £5 in eaoh case. He hoped: the polios would ace into thia matter. Sergeant Gilbert aaid the hotel waa not fit to, have a license, and waa not conducted in accordance with the Act. j ____!<?_. Abbavw.—M. O. Mora_ v T.
