Console remain at 100 J; Five per Cent. New Zealand 1889 loan has advanced to 105; Five per Cent. 10-40 loan remains at 104|; and Four and a - half 1879-1904. loan at 100f. Adelaide wheat has advanced Iβ per quarter, and ie quoted to-day at 57s ex store; Now Zealand wheat, ex store, remains at 52s 6d. Adelaide flour is quoted at 425, ex store an advance of Is. Australian tallow, best beef, 395; best mutton, 41s 6d.
LONDON, November 17. Arrived—Ship Sarah Scott, from Lyttelton, and Assel, from Bluff.
The "Standard" to-day publishes a telegram from Natal, stating that Mopoch, one of the leading chiefs in the Lydenburg district of the Transvaal Republic, has declared war against the Boers, and that hostilities may shortly be expected.
BERLIN, November 17,
The two Houses of the Imperial Parliament, the Bundesrath and Reichstag, were opened to-day. The speech from the throne was read by Prince Bismarck, in the absence of the Emperor. His Majesty's address stated that the peace of the Empire was surer now than it had been at any time during the last decade. It announced that the present economic fiscal policy of the country would be firmly adhered to, and concluded by stating that a scheme of insurance for workmen would be instituted, with a view to improve the letters' welfare and counteract the growth of socialism in the Empire.
ALEXANDRIA, November 16.
News is to hand from Arabia that cholera has now broken out at Djiddah, an important seaport on the Bed Sea, sixty miles west of Mecca, where the epidemic has been raging for some time past. A number of deaths have already occurred at Djiddah, and the mortality at Mecca is stated to be daily increasing.
