OPENING OF THE CATHEDRAL.
TO THE BDITOB OF THB PBESS. Sib, —Many inquiries have been lately made concerning the opening of the cathedral, and it has been very generally expressed that there should be a public holiday on suoh a memorable ocoasiont I think if the Rev. Dean and the Mayor were to obtain the signatures of the tradespeople willing to close, success would crown their efforts. Yours truly, Citizen. TO THB EDITOB OP THB FBBSS. Sib, —I have been looking over your columns every morning for some time expecting to see that some steps had been taken to secure a general holiday on the opening of the cathedral. I trust it ia not now too late, bub I am afraid that if something is not done at once that the opening ceremony will be bat sparsely attended, as I need hardly say that the great bulk of business people will not be able to leave their places of business, and I think that the opening of what I believe is the first cathedral in New Zealand should not be passed over without at least giving every one a chance of taking part in it. Yours, &s., Clebicttb. irarchand Dunedin; and the Station Master's H MEce, Invercargill. n The lowest or any tender will not necessarily ** w accepted. ci J. P. MAXWELL, » General Manager New Zealand Railways. a
