There are no funds appropriated to distriot, but a grant may be made out of t_s general funds. The total cost is estimated it £850. ■ nance and reconstruction of the Carlton . bridge bo defrayed jointly by the City Council and Selwyn County OounciL"—On the motion ; of Mr Mathias, seconded by Mr MoMillan, it J was agreed—"That the acting chairman be 1 \ authorised to sign memorandum of lease of part if reserve 1322 from the school commissioners to the County Council, and that the , seal of the Council be affixed thereto." The engineers to the Hororata water-race work reported that more than five miles of the Bakaia Terrace road flume had been completed. Detail section had been taken across |Mr Bealey'a property to the corner of Bural Section 28856, and also down the branch road from the south-east corner of Bural Section 33025 to the road at the corner of Bural Section 29663. No difficulty would be experienced in carrying open races along these lines if the trenches were flamed across the gullies and low places. The length of the new race on the Bakaia terrace would be six miles twenty chains, and that on the branch road eight miles forty-five chaise. Mr Peryman moved as an amendment—" That the sum of £35 be granted to the Spreydon Boad Board to defray coat of clearing tbe Upper Heathcote." This not being seconded, the original motion was carried.—Mr J. IL. Wilson was authorised to sign cheques in the absence of the ohairman.—lt was resolved, on the motion of Mr MoMillan, seconded by Mr P.ryman— "That the painting and tarring of the Bluff bridge, Coalgate, be left in the hands of the Bakaia and South Malvern Boad Boards."—Mr Peryman gave notice of motion—" That the Government be requested to amend the County Council Act so as to provide for the retirement and election of one-third of the members annually, instead of as now provided by the Aot, that all the members retire at one time every three years."—After some routine business, the Council adjourned.
