A petition was received from ** twenty ratepayers near the beach, objecting to " the proposed road through Native Reserve ' 2058, en the ground that it would be an nn- [ necessary expenditure of the ratepayers' j money. Mr Allan gave notice that he would , move at the next meeting of the Board— i " That the resolution passed on November - 4th, 1880, referring te the opening of the above • road be rescinded." A letter was received - from the agent of the Bank of New Zealand 1 with reference to deposits. In the absence of 1 Mr Lamina, Mr Allan moved the resolution » standing in his name—"That the resolution passed on December 2nd, 1880, authorising I the chairman to deposit the sum of £8000, he 3 rescinded, and that the sum of £7000 be s deposited." This was seconded by Mr r Holmes, and carried. Mr John Holmes 1 wrote, stating that he had handed Mr Gill t _c gum of £15, and taken his receipt in satis- • faction of all damages against the Board. A • letter was received from Mr E. Cuthbert, ' C.E., offering his services to the Board, and enclosing satisfactory testimonials. The Asha burton County Council wrote, acknowledging j the Board's letter re the state of the well at the sew pound. From Mr Helmore, re the t valuation of his property, and stating that c he had had no notice sent to him. The c clerk stated that the party occupying "» his land bad received notice. It was re- • solved—"That Mr Allan be appointed to ; meet the manager of the Colonial Investment | and Agency Company to arrange about the t fencing to be erected on the new road.
