29th, at Leeston, there was a large attendance with a Rood entry of sheep, and the yards were filled to OTerflowing with cattle. The sale of sheep was a good one, and every lot changed hendeat fair prices. For cattle the demand was rot co good, farmers operatiug Terj cautiously, and if it had not been for the presence of several dealers who took all the principal lota neld, the market would hare been » very itdifferent one, and although a large number ci cattle weie disposed of, there was great want of animation throughout the sale. On Thursday the 28th, on account of tho Canterbury Jockoy Club, we dispo&ed of the booths, &c, for the ap-pi-oaehing Metropolitan Meeting. There Y»» a large attendance, but, witb the exception of tne prrmanett bar under the new statd, which realised £132 for the three daye, the prices obtained were much lower than last year; in fact bo languid were the biddings that two of the publicans , booths were withdrawn, the trade apparently having made up their minds to give nothing iike a f±ir value for them. Messes H. Matron and Co. held an extensive sale of merchandise at their salerooms, Casbel street, Chri=tchurcb, en Friday, toe 29th, at which there was a large attendance. Although tte biddings were rather slow there were indications of improvement in Prices. The following goods were disposed of :-Wyndham s Dalwood wines, red and white, quarts, brought 12s to lSe; pints, 10a to 10s 6d per dozen. Albany wines-Madeira. 12s ; Beisl ng. 12s 6d ; Malbec, 12s 6d; Sfeiras, Wβ. On Saturday the usual sale of properties was held in the salerooms, also an auction sale of the salvage of the wreck of the Eagle, wrecked at Saltwater Creek, comprised of cable chain, anchors, blocks, ropes, sails, nails, zinc, lead, compass, &c, tie attendance waa fair and lots soon placed. At the weekly horse sale at TattersaU'e on Saturday, in addition to the nsual entries, a line of 81 hack and light harness horses were submitted from the Longbeach estate. Their general character wag second-rate, though mostly by good sires; but with an unusually large attendance, the whole of this consignment elicited keen competition, and all found owne's lat satisfactory prices, ruling from .£lO to .£24. [ The sale throughout was a euccess, over 101) horses being offered and the bulk cleared. Mb J. L. WiisoN reports:—That attbe sale held at Mr Fred Laurey's farm at West Melton, on Friday last the company wae numerous, and on the -whole the eale wae a success. The farm implements were the first offered, the Australian sstripper £29, double-furrow pwuah r from £5 to £9 17s 6d, roller .£l4, drays .£9 to £15. waggonette £49. McCormick's reaper £37, the Brown and May threshing plant .£35. Most of the emaller things sold at fair pricee. The sheep, a farmer's flock of ewes and lambs, fetched 14s per head, lambe in. Horses being low in condition did not go well; some of the best fetched between £20 and JE3O. The farm, of 766 acres, did not reach Mr Laurey's reserve. A bona fide bid of £5 per acre was offered, which, of course, was too low. My reports for grain are, that the market is unchanged; the oat market gives indications of improvement. 1 The supply of potatoes is still above demand; price about 10s at country station. Mc H. E. Alpobt reports the sale of part of sections Kos. 288 and 287, corner of Park terrace and Chester street, measuring 48 perches, for £850 cash. •
