Fbidat, Atottst 6. In the Legislative Council, The Hon. I" Whitakbb gave notice to introdocs the Diseased Cattle Proclamation Telidation Bill. : The Hon. P. Bvcklsz raised a question or privilege* He had received a printed document unsigned, but; purporting to express the. ■mahei of fehe brewew, pnblicani, and spirit merchants of Dunedin, and was almoet an intimidation of the OoudcLl. Hβ believed that other members had received copies. He vas also often waylaid on coming to the Chamber and asked abont things of which he
knew nothing. After some discussion the matter dropped, it being pointed out that the Oounoil could take no aokton on an unsigned document. In reply to the Hon. Col. Brett, The Hon. F. Wh-takbb said that the Commissioner of Custom* was now taking advioe to see if he had power to order another survey of the barque Annabella at Lyttelton. If he had power to order a second survey he might order half a dozen, and so detain the vessel indefinitely. In moving for the printing of a return, the Hon. Dr. Polish stated that the lioense fees for the last three years had been £49,376, £43,739 and £44,151 respectively. He also complained of the incomplete accounts kept of the license fees through their not being under Government control. The following Bills came from the Lower House, and were read a first time: —Christchuroh District Drainage Aot Amendment Bill, Inch Clutha Aot Amendment Bill, Execution Against Real E.tate Bill, and the Taranaki Iron Smelting Works Land Aot Amendment Bill. The Port Molyneux Reserve Leasing. Aot Amendment Bill was read a third time and passed. On the motion of Hon. Dr. Menztes, the Reporting Committee was ordered to enquire why the debates sometimes appeared in " Hansard " in a mutilated form, and to inform the Council how it is that the report sometimes differs from the faots. The Hon. W. H. Bbtkoeds moved the appointment of a committee to enquire into cast of the cleriosl staff of the Council, with a view ' to a reduction, but after some .discussion the motion was negatived. The Dentists Bill was read a second time and referred to a Select Committee. The Publio Health Act Amendment Bill waa passed through Committee. The Council rose at 5 p.m,
