LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Fbidat, Dbobmbbb 5. The Council agreed to sit on Mondays. Mr Maklbi-. moved — " That in the opinion of the Council Sir J. Vogel waa justified in thinking he had the sanction of the late Government to join the land company. After a short debate in which OoL Whitmobb challenged Sir F. D. Bell to reproach the Government, . . . The Council, on the motion of Mr Watbs-HOU-H, carried the previous question. Mr Wilson moved— " That in the opiniorof the Council the bankruptcy law of the colony requires amendment." He asked the Attorney-General to promise to bring in a good Bill next seision. Mr Whitajceb said he wonld be glad to do so, but Parliament was of a different opinion to himself as to the basis of a good Bill. An interesting debate followed, in whioh Colonel Whitmobh proposed to abolish all bankruptcy lawe, and Mr .FbASEB that all bankrupt! should wear a distinguishing dress, as in Italy. Mr Williamson proposed that all banktupts who oould not show a clear case be treated as criminals, aa in France.
Mr Rbtsozvb supported this view. Mr WATBBHOTraH advocated the South Australian plan. Mr WiiSOK gave notice for a Committee next session to inquire into the subject. The Council carried the motion.
