ODDFELLOWSHIP.
The opening; of the annual convention of the Grand Lodge of the 1.0.0. F., working under the American Constitution, took place last evening. Prior to the opening of the Grand Lodge, the reception committee of the North Canterbury Lodges presented, through the N.G. of the Avon Lodge, Bro. Hall, an address of welcome to the Grand Master and delegates. The 8.W.G.M., in response, expressed a hope that the deliberations of the Grand Lodge would aid in the spread of the beneficent principles of the order throughout New Zealand.
The Grand Lodge waa then constituted in due form, the 8.W.G.M., Bro. E. T. Wheeler, presiding. The other Grand Lodge officers preient were-r-Bro¥. W. BeeS, Grand Secretary; Bro. J. Alexander, Grand Treasurer ; Bro. O. Lezard, Grand Warden; .and representatives from the following lodges*:— Pioneer, Leith, Unity, Linden, Eavensbourne, . Avon, Geraldtne,. Oamaru, Southern Groae, Addington, and Auckland. The B.W.G.M. then addressed the Grand Lodge, detailing the state of the lodges of the Order throughout New Zealand which had been visited by him in his official capacity. The Grand Secretary then read his report, which showed the order to be in a very flourishing condition. The reports of the Grand Treasurer and of the District Grand Matters were read.
The session then closed, to meet again at 10 a.m. this day.
