GENTLEMEN,— Having been requested by. bo many of the Electors of Coleridge to' come forward to fill the vacancy in the representation of the district, caused by the retirement of Mr Wa_on, I feel bound to place myself at their.disposal. If I should be honored with] your confidence on this occasion, I would endeavor to give my best exertions. to promote the interests of the district, with which my own have for so many years been identified. I think, in the present disoreanised state of parties in the Assembly, no large measures of general importance should be carried until there has been a thorough re-ad justment of the representation, as it is manifest, from the increase of population and progress of settlement, that the Provincial District; of Canterbury, and more particularly the Coleridge District, hay© not their share of representatives. ■--.. . ;*-' t I cannot come forward as a supporter of the present Government, as I think they have disappointed the hopes aud expectations of their warmest supporters, aa much by what tbey have done as by what they have left undone, but whatever measures they may introduce I would give them my earnest consideration, and, trust that I Bhall always be able to give satisfactory reasons to the Electors for the course I may pursue. .
