Brandon arrested that morning by Sergeant Pratt, was brought up on information ?aid by police, that he was not in a sound state of mind and fit to be allowed at large. Drs. Buu'ows and Fronfcgous deposed that after careful examination they were not prepared to say positively that accused was quite sane, but he was not likely to to be dangerous to himself and others. From a letter sent to the latter he had concluded that accused was not qrite right, but his answers that day were inte l,: gible. Sergeant Pxatt, in reply to the Bench, said a number of threatening letters had been sent to res* pectable inoffensive persons by accused. The Bench said that after hearing evidence it was not clear to them that he was out of his mind, but they felt it their duty to caution h>m to desist from sending the kind of letters alluded lo containingithreats, and advised him to en- '. deavor to improve his condition other than by ' resorting to suoh means. Accused replied—l , am directed by God to say his work must be ' done. The Bench—You must promise to , send no more of these letters, or yon wi'l be dealt with iv another way. Accuted—They ' must be sent. They must go to all except , Sir George Grey, and go they must, it is the ( word of God. The Bench decided to make a representation of his circumstances to the Borough Council for relief. j ___'™"_r_r i
