ONE DAY'S FIRES.

l_Br Tblhgbap-J AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, March 21. At five minutes to sir o'clock this morning a fire was discovered in a shed or store house for marine goods, situated near the residence of David Gouk, shipbuilder, Nelson street. A carter, named Wm. Inskip, observed the flamos bursting through the weather board building. Before assistance arrived the flames were in full possession, and all efforts were therefore directed towards localising the fire. The stables of George Wilson, in whioh twenty-four draught horses were kept, were in danger, as well as several cottages, but, by dint of great exertion, the spread of the fire was prevented. The store house was burnt to the ground. The value of its inflammable contents, viz., oakum, resin, pitch, tar, is estimated at -3500 or „'6OO. Neither shed or contents were insured. Gouk bad been in Tauranga three weeks past engaged in assistingto float the Taupo. The origin of the fire is not known, but it is supposed that it occurred through spontaneous combustion.. AT BLBNHBI—. Blenheim, March 24. At five o'clock a quantity of barrels and sacks of oats, piled : up and covered with straw at Marlborough Town, were discovered to be on fire. Only a part were saved. A fire broke out in the Union Bank premises this morning at one o'clock. The flames spread with great rapidity, and the Union Bank was burned to the ground, also Painter's and J. Weller's shops. Tho old Bank of New Zealand premises, and the National Bank, were completely gutted, the flames at one time having almost the mastery of the building, but the brigade working excellently the fire was stayed, although at one time the whole.block seemed doomed. The damage cannot yet be ascertained, but it must be close on —.0,000, as the papers, &c, in the Union B——: were, all more or less damaged. Little or nothing was saved on the Union premises or Badger's" stock. Smith, and Barkley are also very heavy losers through the hasty removal of goods during the heavy rain. Forsyth and Masters also lose heavily through a similar cause. The fire is still smouldering, but all danger is past. The losses and insurances, so far as ascertained, are-.—Badger, -3500; no iitaurance. Union Bank, loss not ascertained; insurances, Imperial -5500, Victoria .£6OO, Standard -3500, New Zealand -200. National Bank, loss -3600; insurances, National .£3OO, Standard stock £100, building-3125. Smith and Barclay, loss through removal, —3501*0; insurances, New Zealand -35.0, Victoria -3500, South British„2oo, Standard _3"00, Union .£SOO, Phoenix -500, Imperial -3700, Northern -3250 Fersyth and Masters lose through removal -3100; insurances, National -3250, New Zealand J3500, Victor'--3500, South British J3750, Imperial -375. AT DUNEDIN. Dunedin, March 24. A stable, six tons of hay, and a quantity of farm implements, belonging to Mr Samuel Carey, of Haxilton's Bay, Lower Harbor, were destroyed by fire shortly after midnight on Saturday. Mr Carey, who estimates his loss at -3150, was insured in the National office for —50.
