THE SCRATCHING OF BIDE-A-WEE FOR THE C.J.C. HANDICAP.

TO THB EDITOB OF THB PBBSS. Sib, —I am sure the public will not be surprised at seeing Insolvent (late Bide-a-Wee) scratched for the C.J.O. Handicap. However Mr L-uice could think, with 7st. 111b., he had any chance of even running into a place, I can't imagine—as his previous running will testify. In the Autumn Handicap he carried 6at. 131b., and was never in the race ; his only running of any note being in Timaru, where, carrying 6st. 71b., he ran a dead heat with Hippocampus, who was known at the time to be out of all form. In Dunedin (on St. Andrew's Day), Blue Peter, carrying Bat.; beat Bide-a-Wee, Bst. 51b., easily. In Oamaru, Ariel, with 10it. lib., in a mile-and-three-quarters race, ; meets Blue Peter, carrying 6sfc. '81b., and beats him, the latter coming in a bad third; in the same race Bide-a-Wee, with 7st. 61b., running nowhere. So what chance either Blue P«ter or Bide-a-Wee can have in the O.J.C. Handicap against Ariel, when the former meets him on 261b. and the latter on 181b. worse terms, I would like some one more np in racing matters than myself to explain. Yours, &0., Obsbbtbb.
