The fortnightly meeting of this Council, for despatch of ordinary business, was held on Tuesday evening. - Present—The Mayor (Mr Ellen), Ore. Moore, Funbam, Biackwell, Wilon, Bnrnip. and Ovcnden. Letters trere read— From the Chairman of the Athfcy County Council in reply, stating flat the division of the grant for counties had been, seat to the Government for approval -and he wonld apprise the Council of the result as soon as'possible. From Mr James Holland, offering to accept -£2<X> for the land required for .railway siding from the main line to Kaven Quay, the same to lie fenced <m both sides and & crossing , made. On t c taofion of Cr.BlackweU, seconded by Cr, Moore, it was resolved— "That the clerk write to the Secretary of Public ..Worfce pointing out the urgent need for extensive repairs to the bridge on the line of North road at Kaiapoi, it being now m a very dangerons condition; also, informing him that the Chairman of the Ashley County Council promised to recommend that a gum be set aside from' funds accruing to the Ashley County for repairing same." Carried. The Council then met as a Board of Health, and received a letter from a resident near the Presbyterian Church, stating that a case of scarlatina of a mild type existed in his bouse.
