Chubch Property Trustees. —A meeting of the Church Property Trustees will be held at the College Library, on Friday, 11th Aogaet at 3 p.m. Evebett'B HiBKBNiooN. — This entertainment, which is at present drawinglarge honees in Wellington, will open at the Oddfellows' Hall here on Friday eveniag. Bates of Postage.—A proclamation appears in the New Zealand Gazette of the 6th inst, altering the rates of postage on letters, newspapers, &c. Scab" Disease. —It is notified" in the Gazette that Victoria is now free from the disease in sheep known as scab. Pedestrianism. —A match for_£2s a side willcome off 6n"'Falnr3ay"'afternoon next, at thrfte o'clock, in Latimer square, petween Delaney and Young Gleesdn. The former is to-run ten miles while th© latter walks eeven. ~Haxswell Boai> Board.—A meeting-of ratepayers will be held at the Spreydon Boad Board office on Thursday next, at noon, for the purpose of electing a member to serve on the Board. L.O.L. —The brethren of the various city lodges will hold their annual dinner this evening, at the Oddfellows' Hall, and the Kaiapoi brethren will also hold a dinner and ball at the Kaikainui Hotel the same evening. Kaiapoi Borough School Committee. —The monthly meeting was beld on Monday evening. Present—Messrs Ken (chairman), Johnston, Pashby, H. Revel], and Bean. The chairman reported application had been made for trees. The planting sub-committee was requested to procure shrubs and complete tKe planting of the school site, also to have the ground laid down in grass. After passing accounts the meeting adjourned. The Museum.—The stonework of the" aHctiKone to the Unseam Ts completed,with tha exception of "one chimney head. TJje roofing is, nearly finished, the -snire and* tower being ihe only portions of the upperwork remaining incomplete. The work of lathing the inside walls is progressing rapidly, and should the weather prove fine it is expected that the new building will be ready for occupation about tha end of the year. Bishop of Waiapu.—The New Zealand Times says :—" We regret to say that the Bishop of Waiapu has been obliged, in consequence of ill health, to resign his see. The Bight Reverend Dr Williame, who came to :New Zealand as a missionary in 1826, was consecrated at Wellington in 1869, being the first bishop consecrated in New Zealand. It vyould thus appear that he has been actively epgaged in the work of the Church in this country for half a century." Harewood Boad.—An entertainment was held in the district schoolroom on Friday evening last. The programme contained readings and recitations by Messrs Phillips, Thornton, and Morgan, and Miss Wattington, two piano soloa by Miss Norman, and songs by Mies Hancock and Mr Jacobsen. The entertainment concluded with dancing, which was kept up with spirit to a late hour. The next entertainment will be given in about three weeks. Ltdia'Howabde Burlesqe Troupe,— There' was a very good house at the Music Hall, last evening,, when " II Trovatore", was. It went excellently from first to last, Misa Howarde as Manrioo, and Mies Nyeas the. Count di Luna playing and singing with great spirit. Mdlle Navaro received a well merited tribute of applause for her capital acting and singing in the " Miserere" scene. To-night. "II Trovatore" will be repeated for the last time. " Cbilperic" and "; Tbe-Waterman," one of- the best musical bu'rTettas oh the stage, will be played tomorrow. , . . . ; : Tai Tapu Jocket Club.—A meeting of persons interested in the formation of a jopkey club was held at the BUeemere Arms Hotel, Tai Tapu, on Monday last. There was only a limited i attendance. Mr T. Leathern moved—-"That a jockey club ;be formed, to be called the Tai Tapu Jockey Club," which was seconded by Mr R. Little and carried. It was .resolved —" That the annual subscription be two guineas per annum, payable on the Ist March."; Ifc was resolved —"That a committee be formed with, a view of obtaining members for the club, to consist of Messrs t. Leathern, B. Little, •J. Champion, B. Wallace, and .E, Edmunds ; the committee to report to a public meeting, to be. held on Saturday, July 29th, at the Ellesmere Arms." Opening of thb New Towk Hall. Oxford —The formal opening , of the Oxford iTown Hall took place on Monday evening last, when an entertainment and ball was piven in honor of the event. The building ha 3 been finished for a good while, and bad not a difficulty arisen between the contractors and the directors, would have been .opened some time ago. The large hall was well filled at the entertainment on Monday evening,- and Mr Thos Woodfield, chairman of the JBoard of Directors, opened the concert with reading a prologue written for the occaesion by a localjjentlemau. The" follow} ing programme was then successfully goDe through—Piano duet, Miss and Master Clarke; song, "The Bay of Biscay," Mr T. Hamilton; song, "Stracgere yet," Mies Verrall; glee, "Crabbed ago," Mr Merton and company ; song, " Ever -of thee," Miss Ladbrooke ; song, " The wolf," Mr Merton ; song, " The murmur of the shell," Miss Ness (encored); song. "Never give in," Mr 8.,8. ; Good (encored); piano solo, Miss Clarke; pong, '*The gipsies' warning," Miss Verrall (encored); song, "The four jolly Bmithp," Mr Mertoa (encored) ; flute solo, Mr Mardori (encored); song, " Within a mile of Edinboro' tonn," Mies Ladbrooke (encored); SDng, "Tom Bowling," Mr Thomas Hamilton ; glee, " Mynheer van.Danck ; " song , . "Yesterday," Miss Ness (encored); eong, " The moral young man," Mr 0. B. Good (encored); finale, National Anthem Tin various items in the programme were very nicely, rendered, espc-. cially the ladies' solos, which were nearly all redetoanded by the audience, and responded to. Miss Olaree played the accompaniments to the songs in an effective manner. After the entertainment the ball was commenced, and was kept up with gieit spirit until daylight ruxt. morning, and the affair was altogether a very successful gathering,
