At the nomination to-day the following candidates were proposed—Messrs Kelly, Morris, Bead, and Marsh. The show of hands was in favour of Mr Morris by a majority of fourteen. A poll was demanded.
Sir George Grey yesterday received another letter from the Kingites urging him to visit them. He has gone to the Thames to contest the seat for the representation of that district.
Intelligence was received by the Hero that owing to the illness of Mr Alfred Anderson, the pianist, lima de Murska cannot come via Auckland, but will arrive in Dunedin about the third, week in January for a !New Zealand tour.

At the nomination for the Waipn district the show of hands was—Cox, .24 ; McNinn, 3. A poll was demanded. Wellington, December 20. The railway to the Upper Hutt will be formally opened on the 4th. The three men who were cut down by Mai, or Smat as he is also known as, are still lying in the hospital in much the same condition. Two are able to talk, but the other is delirious.
