We are informed by Captain McLean, of the s.e Halcyon, that after January Ist there will only be a bi-weekly mail to Pigeon Bay, and that, in consequence, he will, after that date, have to visit Pigeon Bay and Little Akaloa on Friday, instead of going , to the latter port specially once a week. Messrs' Shaw, Seville and Co's fine shipLangetone did good work yesterday, putting out about 120 tons oi carjo at the Gladstone Pier. The N.Z.S. Go's elendld ship Waltara arrived at the Bluff on Christmas morning-, after a capital passage of eighty-five d«ys. She brings 230 immigrants. The Otago arrived at 7.15 p.m. last night, all well She was detained by the thick fog. She sighted the Taranaki off Akaroa but thought she was leaving Lyttelton. She sails for the South at 3 p.m. to-day. The Union Company's fine s.s. Taupo, Captain J. Macfarlane. arrived in harbor yesterday at 8.30 am. from Northern ports. She left Manakau 4.40 p.m. on 22nd; arrived at Taranaki 7 a.m. on 23rd, left 9 a.m.; arrived at Nelson 4 a_m. on 24th, left 4.30 p.m.; arrived at Picton midnight, left 2.30 a.m. on 25th; arrived at "Wellington 7 a.m., left Wellington on excursion to Picton at 8.30 a.m.on the 27th; arrived Picton 1 p.m., left at 6 p.m., arriving at Wellington 10 pm. the same day; left again for Lyttelton at 3.55 p.m. on the 28th; experienced from Manakau. fine weather u> Nelson, then light variable winds and thick foggy weather to her Arrival as above. The 6.8. Taranaki, Captain Lloyd, arrived at 4.35 p.m. yesterday. Reports leaving Port Chalmers at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and having- head winds and thick weather to arrival as above. Passed the brigantine Sea Gull at 11 a.m. to the southward of Akaroa; she wished to be reported.. The s.s. Otago was seen at noon off Akaroa Steaming- south, and the yacht Scud, from Akaroa, at 2.30 p.m. off Macintosh Bay. The Taranaki, after discharering thirty tons of cargo, sailed for North at 6.30 p.m. We are obliged to Mr Edmlston, the purser, for report and files.
