HOLIDAY TRAVELLING.

TO THE EMTOE OF THE PRESS. SlB, —Through the aid of your columns I :should like to call the attention of the traffic manager, now that the new year is again approaching, to the disgraceful arrangements for carrying to and from Lyttelton those who yearly pay a visit to the Lyttelton Begatta; and should suggest to his wisdom 'that if his excuse for keeping the public waiting in the rain from 3 p.m. to 9 or 10 p.m. was want of carriages, he could without any great ingenni ty fit up the waggons used at race time to carry the male portion •of the visitors. If he should deem they ■would get injured in passing through the tunnel, he might have the sides padded, as it seems the rule that the public cannot look -after themselves, and even when railway carriages are built with platforms, it requires a printed notice posted in them to inform the public that they tumble off at own risk. Yours, &c, A StJPPEREB. Christeburcb, December 28, 1875. THE ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY AND THE HOSPITAL. TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —I notice in the report of the meeting •of the Acclimatisation Society, that a correspondence has been inaugurated by the Pro--vincial Secretary, wishing to know upon what terms the society occupies the grounds near the hospital, and he therein speaks of bridging the creek between the hospital grounds and those of the society. My reason for occupying your space is to attract public attention to the small end of the wedge being inserted toward the deprivation of the public :from the use of any portion of land which has been assigned to them, and to the probable result to the public the indiscriminate intermingling of the convalescent with the healthy wonldhave. lam not an alarmist, tat believe prevention is better than cure With all respect for the hospital as an ineti--tutaon, and the gentlemen who are at the head or. the management, I think the public are entitled to an explanation with reference to this project. Yours, &c, n , IKQUIREB. December 29th. 1875.
