Auckland, Dec 27. The City of Melbourne proceeded on her voyage to San Francisco at noon to-day. All the sports are postponed on account of the heavy rain. lima de Murska is expected to-morrow per Hero. Mr Clarke, a candidate for the City East, publishes a letter in this day's Herald, in which he says he is prepared to support and follow Sir G. Grey in everything except separation. The office of the Sydney Evening News, had a narrow escape of being totally destroyed by fire. Nearly all the material in the compositors' room was destroyed, and a quantity of paper. The stock and premises were insured for £9000. of which £2500 was in the New Zealand office. An enquiry is to be held into the George street fire. Mrs M'Laren, who jumped on her husband's chest and killed him, has been removed to the Lunatic Asylum as insane.

There are eight cases, all light, for trial at tbe sessions.

The Dnnstan election resulted as follows: — Pyke, 309; Baird 159, and the Roslyn as follows :—Burns, 233 ; Grant, 46.

Invercabgill, Dec. 27. At the election the result of the poll was— Lumsden, 180; Cuthbertson, 159.
