Press Office, Monday. We nave to report a good business done -in the import markets during the past week. At public auction, on Wednesday, part of Ihe cargo of sugars ex John Kendall was Werea, but onfyabout 700 Sockets werejjlaced at the followingrates—Snowropi,"£33 to £33~los; white cry situs," 231 ids to £32; yellow crystals. £31 10s -, light yellow counters. £27 10s to" £23. The attendance was very small; since the above sale, about 900 pockets have been placed privately in one line, at lower prices; than quoted above, viz. light yellowcounters, £27 ;■ snowdrops, £32 i.b. The ordinary trade sales have been effected in sugars at full rates. We note, by latest Mauritius telegrams to hand, that a cargo of sugars had been despatched for Lyttelton about the 10th. November: this cargo is now overdue, and may be looked for at any moment,. Teas—We have ooly few trade sales to report, buyers holding back until arrival of shipments via Dunedin, due in a day or two. We note the Nardoo's portion of teas for this market will come on by steamer, and the part cargo per Anna Dorothea, willcome on by this ship, sailing from the above port on Tuesday next. As usual, at. this time of the year the demand for dried fruits has been very great. Large sales have been effected in'currants at -i$A to sd; elemes, 7d to 7sd ; muscatels, Is to 12id; and sultanas, 8d to 9d. Hennessy's bulk and case brandy have met with attention at our last rates, Danville's case whisky has been placed ir. large parcels at 17s 6d i.b.,- bulk is scarce, and commands Gs to 6B6di/b. Clarets have been selling more freely than for some time past. Sperm candles have been sold in large trade parcels at IOJd to lld. palings, &c—The cargo, ex Southern Cross, was offered at auction on Thursday, the only business done was the quittance of 30,000 shingles at 19s, the balance of the cargo was passed in. The Customs revenue collected on Thursday was as follows:— £ b. d. H. Campbell report oh the live stock market for the week ending the 18th instant. At the Addington yards on; Wednesday, the Jfith instant, 3900 sheep were penned, comprising several lots of very prime fat eheep/'and vendors had to Bubmit to a reduction on late quotations. Lambs brought from 6s to 10s; stores—merino wethers fetched 4s 2d; big framed half-bred sheep; 9s. 830 head cattle were yarded for the'weeVs supply, amongst them some very good beet ; prime quality light weights fetched good prices, equal to 30s; medium, 25s to 27s 6d per lOOlbs, There is still a good demand for stores,aHdingh prices are still maintained. On Friday we held;a sale of sheep at tlie Selwyn,arid cleared adraftpfmerino ewes at'ss Od. Horses—On Saturday there~~wa9" an improved demand ior all ..useful descriptions, but as. holders put such high reserves on their horses; we cannot succeed in disposing dC them ; we sold a few. superior draughts. On account of Messrs Mathews Brothers,"whoare-dissolving partnership, the well known prize taker Violet, with foal at foot, by Young Watty; slie was Btarted at Beveoty ; guineas, and after some, quick and spirited bidding, was knocked down to Messrs Campbell andMcConkic, on behalf of Mr J. Mathews,' for 100 guineas; We must say we think she was cheap, at that price, and congratulate Mr Mathews on i securing such a valuable mare, as Bhe will undoubtedly well repay his Outlay; he also secured her two-year-old filly, by Baronet, a (remarkably nice animal.'With great hone and shewing a deal of quality, also cheap at £49. We quote good draughts ironf £35-to £50; bnediumdo, £25 to £30; good hacks and harness !horses,£2oto£2s; useful do, £12 to £15; inferior, nominrl. Messrs H. Matson and Co report on the live stock market, &c, for'the week ending Thursday, 23rd ■December, 1875:—Al tho. yards 250 head of cvfctlp and. 6300 i sheep came to hand.
