New Zealand best heavy cannot now be quoted above 6ld to 5Jd. and beat light sjd to 6|d per lb. SEW ZEAI.AKD HEMP. ._,_,. The market lor this fibre remains without alteration, but a small business is being done at steady rates. Some cood common was disposed of at _.», on the 27th inst. at £20 per ton. PRESERVED MEATS. ... In consequence of higher rates the demand has to some extent decreased, but small sized tins, ot which stocks are small, are enquired for and command good prices.

TnE MONEY MARKET. Mr W. Westgfirth reports on October 29th :— The considerable and rapid advance of the bank rate, from 2 per cent at the date of my last circular four weeks ago. to 4 per cent at present, has not had much prejudicial effect upon the market generally. The advance is regarded as only temporary, arising chiefly from the German sold demand, which i perns already abating. The Colonial Government debentures mostly maintain the hi_rh prices reached last month. In some few instances, chiefly Tictoria and New South.Wales, there has been a little further advance. The various New Zealand Stocks • have maintained their value , with the Ute favorable accounts from the. colony. The municipal bonds continue in favor, and the Auckland and Dunedin sixes and the Brisbane fives have advanced 1 to 1_ ■per cent. THE PRODUCE MARKETS. Messrs Mile. Brothers and Co report on October 29th, as follows :— WOOLWe have very little to add to our report of the 21st Instant, bnt there has been a moderate demand from abroad, chiefly for low class Australian scoured wool, at about closing rates of last serifs, and a fair business has been done in Capes, both fleece and super-scoured, at a slight advance. There is a rather better feeling in the manufacturing districts, and we fully expect that present rates will he maintained at the next series. It is predicted in some quarters that prices will rule lower for the newclip, but at this early date we hardly think it safe to give any definite opinion. The arrivals to date for the next series amount to 74.1.8 bales, including 35,957 bales from the Cape. WHEAT AND FLOCR. Although the importations continue lanre; and far in excess of our requirements, and our gran iries are fully stocked, prices have hardened during the last week in consequence of the heavy -rainfall which we have lately experienced, and the damavre caused by the floods. Australian is is per quarter dearer, the quotations ex granary being 55s to 56s per 4961b5; bnt as there have bton no new arrivals from New Zealand, the quotations remain the same viz, 52a to 548. Australian flour is worth from -I_s to 408 per 280lbs for extra qualities. It is anticipated that foreign high-class nhcata trill be in good demand at- advanced prices as soon as the present large stocks have been worked ofT. TALLOW AND HIDES. . The public sales of tallow to-day went off heavily, but a moderate amount of business was done. 990 casks being sold out of 1390 casks offered.
