This magnificent new steamer arrived forthc first time in our waters yesterday moraine We have already given a full description of this splendid boat, and can only aid that she fully bears out the encomiums passed on her, and is nearly an exact counterpart of her sister the Ringarooma. with one or two slight modifications, which we think are improvements. Company s mail boat Sumatra, which had been telegraphed off Cape Otway with the Suez mail. On arrival of the above steamer at 7 p.m. the mails were transhipped, and the New Zealand boat proceeded on her yovage. Cleared Port Philip at 8 p.m. and passed Swan Island at 1 p.m. on following day; experienced moderate heaS winds and fine weather throughout the passage, and passed theSolanders at,4.37 pm. on the 10th. arriving «* Bluff Harbor at 9.30 pi., having made the run in four days. Moored along•■_S_HMrli_^^ 20 minutes in the face of a fresh NE. wind, which she enconntered off the Nuggets. _ Rom the Bluff to that port l__ knots per hour were made; shereached Port Chalmers the fifth day out from Melbourne, a feat which has never been done before; discharged 228 tons of cargo, and left at 8 pm. on 21st, arriving at Lyttelton at 10.20 am. on the 22nd. doing the run in 16 hours and 20 minutes; discharged 85 tons Of cargo, and sailed for North at 5.30 p.m.
