MR BESWICK AT RANGIORA.
On Saturday evening Mr Beswick met the electors of Kaiapoi district at the Literary Institute, Rangiora. -About 150 personi were present. Mr W. Buss occupied the chair. After hiß address, during which he was frequently interrupted, Mr Beswick answered one or tw9 questions ia reference to Mr Marshman leaving the railway, aud the five shillings a day, both of which, he said, ought not to have been imported into the present election. After a pauße, the chairman said he should declare the meeting at as end unless anyone had a resolution to propose. figr Faulkner proposed—•' That this meet* ing*thanks Mr Beswick for his address this evening, but considers Mr Boweu the only fit and proper person to represent this district in the General Assembly." [Cheers.] Captain Brandon seconded the motion. The chairman said he would put it in two parts—viz, " That this meeting thanks Mr Beswick," and then " That the meeting has confidence in Mr Bowen." A scene ot uproar ensued, Mr Hnrse protesting that if no amendment was made the chairman ought to declare the motion carried. The meeting then gave three cheers for Mr Bowen. Three cheers were called for Mr Beswick, and a scene of uproar followed, when the meeting broke up.
