For prime milling we can quote only whit would la&y have been paid for ordinary feed? Wheat continues in fair demand, but we have no alteration to report in price. A good exSbusiness is being done in flour, but owing to We stocks, miller's quotations are unchanged. There is a la r demand for cheese for shipmenCbut new cheese fit for this iB scarce. As yet there is •SoTinSohStoation in prices, but no donbt.as the season advances prices wiU be low. Butter is slowly receding, and there is no inclination to lay *• in stocks at present pricef. Hams and bacon are in fair demana for Chri**tma ß use. Buyers quotations are-Prime milling-wheat, 4s; do oats. 2s Id to 2s 2d ; barley, nominal; flour, £10 in sacks. £10 i? BCd n 1001b bags. £11 6si in, 501b bags; bran £4 10s; sharps. Is 10s: butter. 7*d; cheese <new). 7*d; hams and bacon, in cloth, Ud. If we take into consideration Thursday being a public holiday, the business transacted duringthe week has been fully up to the average. We have no E aiSs to report. The ship Waikato sailed for London on the 15th instant, taking full and valuable cargo, consisting of wool, wheat, skins, and Spirits have received Sore attention this week. Dunyilte's case whisky has been placed readily at l*/s 6d to 1881; bulk finds purchasers at 6s to 6s 6d according to age. Case brandy (Hennessy's) has been inquired for; sales have Wen made at 3is to sis Bd } bulk is offered freely at 8s to arrive. Several sales in second hands have been effected at 6s 9d to 6s lOd for bulk, and 22a to 25s i.b. for case. Bottled ales and stouts have been quiet; we have only a few small sales to report at current rates. Bass s bulk ale—This line meets with steady sale at 10s to £10 per hhd. In wines, we have to report a better demand, sherry meeting with good sale at 8s to 12s ib. Claret does not move off as readily as anticipated. No 2 3foselle, pints, have been placed freely at 30s d.p.; quarts hang on importers hands. We quote 52s to 53s d.p. Ordinary trade sales have been made in tobaccos at our last rates. Sugars have not called for any particular remark. Several email lots have been quitted at last rates. Teas— This market at present is rather bare of good box teas. Sales have made in halt-chests and boxes at from. 2s to 2s 6d d.p. We note the Anna Dorothea hair arrived at Port Chalmers, with part cargo, about 4000 packages tea, for this market. This will be the first direct shipment this season, and wU come to a good market. Cemeut-The demand lor this article is very great indeed. We note the City Council accepted a tender for 2000 casks at 2ls 3d, delivered in the yards. About 1200 casks have quitted to arrive and in Port at 20s 6d to 21s d.p., delivered In Christchurch. Messrs H. Matson and Co report on the live stock market, &c, as follows, for the weekfending.Friday, 17th Dec:—At Addington yards on Wednesday last, 330 headof cattle and 3900 head of sheep came to hand for the week's supply-In cattle, our sales were 230 head for Sir Cracroft Wilson, J. Gebbie, DavK Dun-n, Ferguson, Bell. Heuderson, G regg. Carr, R. Wrisrlit. Dry-dec' Daley. Hill, Greenland others, at for fat cattle £8 10s, £10, to £11 por head ; stores sold at extreme rates. The demand is large, with only moderate supplies. In sheep, our sales were 1236 sheep for Sir Cracroft Wilson. McMillan, Bcnriie, ST Bailey, Weston. Hampton, Carpenter, Duubar, Duncan, Haydon,.o'C.iHaglian.aud others. O'Callagban, and sundry lots ot lafabs at 4s 9d to 6s 6d for inferior, and 8s 6d to 10s for superior. Sheep Skins, Hides, and Tallow—Ou Friday, our sale at the wool stores was well attended, aud sales made were as follows.* Lamb skins. lOd, Is to is 6d each ; pelts, 2d, 3d, sd, 6d and 13d each; woolly skins, to 6a 3d each; hides, all round, i\d per lb; calf, do, 7id; rough fat, do, 2}d per lb. Mr Charles Clark reports that at the auction sale held by him at his rooms in Hereford street on-Tuesday, the 14th instant, of the suburban township of New Cambridge, Kerry road, the property of Mr William Parish, there was eager competition for the various sections. Tlie acre allotment with house realised £300. Tho sections of one quarter of an acre and less on the Ferry road sold for £70 up te £80 each, and the back sections for £50 each. The sections on Ollivier's road and William street brought from £61 to £70 each.
