CUNNINGHAM, in apologising to Mrs Flanagan for certain remaiks made by him in reference to her, cannot but add that the terms he used have been grossly misconstrued, and mischief made where none was intended. For the rest, I must admit the remarks I made were most indiscreet, as having never had any other occasion than that of the greatest of respect to make in alluding to Mrs Flanagan or her husband. All I can say in conclusion is that it was merely a thoughtless joke, which I am exceedingly sorry for, and so I beg to remain, Yours respectfully, 6-7 7705 W. G. CUNNINGHAM. NOTICE is hereby given that MR W. G. BRITTAN has been appointed Church Steward. If the r work is to go on, it will be necessary that | subscriptions should come in more quickly a and freely than is the case at present. No further contract of any large extent can be * entered into with the funds which can at present be relied upon, and it has been found on a careful estimate of the work—the first of a detailed nature which has been made— that a sum oi from £10,000 to £12,000 will be required, beyond tbe amount already promised, before the nave and aisles of tbe • Cathedral can be roofed in, and so far com- . pleted as to be available for the pur- v poses of divine service. As it cannot be expected that further grants will be made for this object from tbe Church Trust Estate, which has already contributed • so largely towards it, it is evident ihat greater efforts will have to be made, and a more liberal spirit evinced on the part of the s public generally, to prevent the work being ?, brought to a standstill. v Subscriptions (which may be spread at the donor's option over a period of three years) /i may be paid to C. R. Blakiston, Esq, acting h Treasurer, to any Member of the Cathedral ™ Commission, or persons authorised by them, ■> or at the Union Bank of Australia, to the ac- ~ count of the Cathedral Fund. * CROASDAILE BOWEN, Eon Secretary.
