Writing on the subject of the cession to Great Britain of the Fiji Islands, the Wen Zealand Herald remarks :—"The formal cession of these islands to England is imM^V 0 " 17 - 88 the inning of her nrolying between New Zealand in the south and the bandwich group in the north. Onr Government, perhaps, will have nothing to say upon the subject except that the independence of the Sandwich Islands must not be disturbed.
