Teachers' Association. — The usual monthly meeting of this association will be held in the Durham street schoolroom on Saturday next. Floweb Show.—The spring show of the Christchurch Horticultural Society will be held in the grounds of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Thursday next. Educational BisTßicrra.—The boundaries of the new educational district of Barry's Bay are given in the Gazette of November 6th, aud also the altered boundaries of the Duvauchelles Bay district. TELEGRAPHIC—The steamer Alhamhra ie expected to leave the Bluff at 11 a.m. to-day. Telegrams for the Australian colonies or Europe via Java cable will be received at the Telegraph office for transmission to the BlufE up to 10 o'clock this morning. Wesleyan Home Missions.—A public meeting, in connection with the above object, will be held on Tuesday evening next, at half-past seven, when addressed will be delivered by several of the minister* attending the annual district meeting. Lincoln Educational District. — A meeting of householders in the Lincoln dietrict will be held in the schoolroom on Monday next, at 7 p.m., to consider the advisability of securing a larger site for the new school. Holidat.—Monday next being the Prince of Wales' birthday, will be observed as a general holiday. Most of the business places in town will close and the solicitors have also determined to close their offices on that day. The Baces and Show.—The fares fixed for the race and show days will be found in another column. In addition to the railway tickets purchasable at the Central Ticket agency. High street, tickets can be obtained there, for admission to the coarse. Erratum. —In our report of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Exhibition it was stated in error that the firat prize Lincoln ram, in class 13, shown by Judge Gresson, was bred by Milton Bros., Southland. It should have been, bred by Button Bros., Southland. Slaughter-House Licenses.—lt is intimated in another column that a special meeting of the Justices of the Peace for the province of Canterbury will be held at the Resident Magistrates' Court, Christchurch, on the 19th inst, to consider applications for slaughter-house licenses. PebsbtteriAN ASSEMBLY.—It ie announced that the Presbyterian Assembly of New Zealand will meet at Wellington an the 4th December, The question of union with the Presbyterian Church of Otago will very probably be ooneidered. Accident.—»An accident occurred yesterday morning at the railway station, by wbich one of the day laborers was seriously injured. He was standing behind a waggon while two others containing timber were being shunted, and the pieces overlapping jammed him before he could get out of the way. He was removed to the hoepital, Oxford Railway.—So far as can be [ learnt, this line is intended to be opened for traffic to the Moeraki Downs on and after the 16th. On Thursday, Mr Taylor, the con- i tractor, conveyed persons to and from the Bangiora Agricultural Show free, and about 200 availed themselves of his liberality, for which he is deserving of thanks. Presbytery of Christchurch.—lhe Presbytery met yesterday in St Andrew's schoolroom, for the purpose of nominating Commissioners to the General Assembly, and also of fixing a day for moderating on a call to a minister the Amuri district. We understand that a minister is shortly to be settled at Akaroa, and a third at Lincoln. This will go far to fill np the vacaucies which have for some time existed in the Presbytery, Cricket.—A cricket match—Old v New Members—was held on the ground belonging to the Ellesmere Cricket Club, on Thursday last. The new members were captained by Mr R. B. Willie, captain of the club ; Mr C. F. Williams officiating as captain of the other eleven. Long scores were not the order of the day. few double figures being obtained on either side. The fielding on the part of the old members was very creditable, and their opponents only want a little practise to be able to compete with their seniors in this respect. Fatal Accident.—A boy named Jona McCormack, whose father resides at Leeston, and who had been working for Mr J, Boyle, contractor, was killed yesterday after- ,; noon, at Bpringstoa. No one saw the accident or heard any cries, and the spot where it concurred would be at a tnrn in the road shot ■ out both from the pit and the stack. The body was removed to the Lincoln Hotel.

The Primitive Methodist Society, Kaiapoi.—A public tea meeting in con* ncxiou with this society was held at the institute on Thursday evening, at which the. attendance was about 130 persons. Tp.oies I were provided and attended to by Mc&damefl Bourne, Lainey, Maher, Ayler, au& Brown, the Misses Henwood (2), and Miss White. ' At the public meeting the chair was occupied by Mr J. M. Bourne, resident preacher. Mr J. H. Henwood gave as account of the progress of the cause, explaining that the i institute committee having opened the read* 1 ing rooms on Sunday had suggested to the society the advisability of meeting in another building. A piece of land and house bad ' been bought fop £150 through one of the , building societies, and with the help of sab- ' scriptions it was being fitted op for holding serviceein. MrJosiah Iflole was the next speaker, followed by Rev B. J. Westbrooke, who gave aa interesting statement of tbt rise and progress of the society, and wai succeeded by Mr B. ETOETON. —A meeting of the building committee of the Wesleyan Chapel was held here on Tuesday evening at Mr Ohilton's, for tie purpose of opening the tenders. There were present—Rev B. Bavin in the chair, Messrs Martin, Davis, Chilton, Beal, and MoffaL .The action of Mr Wright in ordering the Oxford timber was approved. The tender of Messrs Boyd and Keir, Bangiora, to erect the building (timber and piles being provided)for £105 was accepted on the motion of Mr,Moffatt, seconded by Mr Chilton. The amount promised towards the building was reported to be £U6 Bs. On the motion of Mr Beal, seconded by Mr Moffat, Mr Wright was appointed to superintend the building, and past it when finished. Arrangements were made, to lay out the site, and after a vote of thanks to the rev chairman, the meeting terminated.

No 5 C.R.V., Kaiapoi.—On Thursday last a number of members of this corps assembled at the rifle raDge to compete for private prices—via, first prize a gold ring, given by Lieutenant Perriu, and second prite a writing deck, given by Private Eiby. The weather was excellent for good scoring. The conditions of the firing were, five ehots at 200, ; 300, - and 500 yarde, with Bin bulls-eye j target at the first and large target at I the other ranges. The scores made were, by lieutenant Perrin 37, Corporal F. Pearce 47, CorpoTal F. J. Baker 36, Private W. Perriu 60, Private C. Bayman 45, Private J. Perrin 37, Private G. Wright 29, Private G. Capil 33, Private W. Burnett 38. Private W. Perrin and Corporal F. Pearce were declared winners of the prizes. Several other sweepstake matches also took place during the afternoon, Ashbubton. —A meeting of cricketers was held at the Road Board office, on Wednesday, 4th November. Mr J. Ward was voted to the chair, in the absence of Mr H. T. Winter, the president. It was moved by Mr Baigent, seconded by Mr Amos, " That Mr Poynta be requested to act as secretary re C. W. Greenwood, resigned."—Carried. It was moved by Mr Amos, seconded by Mr Shepherd, " That the annnal subscription for members be fixed at 103."—Carried. Moved by Mr Dieby, seconded by Mr Roberts, "That Messrs Ward, Poyntz, and Shepherd be a subcommittee to pick out a suitable piece of ground to practice on." —Carried. • Moved by Mr Baigent, seconded by Mr Amos, " That the club commence regular practice on Monday, November 9th, at 5 p.m. sharp."—Carried. It was resolved, " That all persons wishing to join the club must be proposed and geconded by actual members prior to being admitted." " That no person be allowed to play unless he has paid his subscription, except in the case of a substitute at a match." Besolved—" That Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 5 p.m., be the authorised practice night* of the club, provided that members may practice at any other time if they are so desirous."
