GOOD TEMPLAR HALL COMPANY, LIMITED.
A meeting of this company was held last evening in the old Oddfellows' Hall. Mr J, J. Fitzgibbon was vo f ed to the chair.
■• The chairman -read the - 'advertisement calling the meeting, and stated that the object of the meeting was to make Good Templariem something more than a name. \ Great euccesa had attended the order since its institution, and the "time had now come when they should have a hall of their own. [Applause.] He then referred to a letter which had appeared in' Friday's "'Press,.' , advocating the desirability of a Good Templar hotel, and also read a letter from a meojpef unavoidably absent strongly recommending such an establishment. Such , a buildicg might be very desirable, but he (the chairman) did not think T \t should be erected with the shareholders' money. That ;he trusted, would be devoted to the building ot ahall/Wdesisned by the provisional committee., After referring to the business brought Before the'previous meeting of the I shareholders, _the chairman desired the secretary; Mr Tren with, to read the prospectus of the company. • Mr J. B. Dale moved—"That a coinDany be formed to be called the Good Templar Hall Company, Limited." . Mr Bttxton seconded the resolution, which was carried.
■ Mr Milte stated te the meeting that 350 shares had' already been taken up, on which deposits had been paid, and over 150 more had been promised. A piece of ground bad. been nnder offer from Messrs Harman and Stevens," who were prepared to, let the, company have it on very liberal terme. It was his belief that if a hall were built possessing good acoustic properties, it would be a financial success. He would now. tender the resignation of the provisional iawnmittee^, whoi had dona their .duty .in i working the matter up to its present stage. l_Applause.] ~ " j ' Mr Dale considered the "site mentioned could be improved upon. He only mentioned this, however, with a view to ventilate the [question. , '~'■.. Mr Dewsbury supported the present site. :He thought that the two bridges leading jthereto, and the proximity of the : public ilibrary, would be an advantage, and would improve the probability of the hall letting Iwell for public purposed, '" : ' ; Mr Buxton considered that they should ihave fifty feet instead of forty feet, as the lan d 'would donbtless, increase' in value. He would like.to hear the opinion of the shareholders on this matter.
! Mr Kerr referred to a site in Kilmore street which might be obtained, and on which there was a house bringing in a rental jof twelve shillings a week. He could not, however, state on what terms it might be had, . ~ ."„... (Mt Date ;believed the site already chosen far preferable! ~ _ Ultimately the final selection of a site was left to the directors to be elected that evening. . ~■• ' ; ...''.. It was -proposed by Mx Taylor, seconded by Mr Dale, and carried—" That Messrs 'BaxtorvGavio, Oaygill, E. Clarkson, Dewsbury, B. McCocnell, and Jaques, be the Idirectora of the company."
iMr Mills proposed—" That Messrs Buxton, iCaygill, and Dale be trustees." , Mr Hutton seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr Trenwith was elected secretary, Mr J. L. Wilson treasurer, and Messrs Taylor and Hutton auditors, h -- v.-. , By desire oJE the chairman, Mr Taylor read over the names of the shareholders and of those who had paid deposits on their shares. Mr Caygill proposed—" That the directors be recommended to obtain. 60ffc _ frontage, instead of aa the proposed site is in an advancing neighborhood." : Mr Carter seconded the motion. ; A discussion took place, in which Messrs Kerr, Mills, Dale, Buxton, Carter, Jacques, and Hutton took part, when it was ultimately resolved that this matter and the selection of a site be left to the directors. A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting toe close. A number of shares were then taken np by those present.
