Agricultural and Pastoral Association.—The committee of this association will meet at Tattersall's at 2.15 p.m. this afternoon.
Mr Holloway.—This gentleman, who is now on a visit to Christchurch, was engaged daring yesterday in visiting the suburbs of Chrißtchuich in company with His Honor the Superintendent. Mr HolJoway expresses himself as highly pleased with the appearance of Christchurch, and the prosperity everywhere apparent in the suburban and country districts. He aleo vieited the ship Bakaia during yesterday afternoon, and inspected her accommodation for immigrants. ; Legal.—His Honor the Judge will git in Chambers at 11 a.m. this day.
Licensing Court.—The fitting of the Licensing Court for the trict, will take place to-day at the Resident Magistrate's Court, when the applications for licenses sent in will be considered, I EXPOBTS FROM LYTTEI/TON.—Daring thd quarter ending March 3let, the following quantity of New Zealand produce was shipped from Lyttelton to the rations provinces of Zealand : — Bacon and hams, 1864Jcwt; beans andpeas, 453 bushels; bran, 133f tons ; bricks, 76,900 ; biscuits, 31 cwt; butter, 805 cwt ; chaff, 109J tons; chicory, 4 pkgs ; eggs, 42 pkge ; cheese, 12434 cwt ; barley, 4123 bushels ; malt, 7065 bushels ; oate, 42,982 bushels ; wheat, 33,224 bushels ; flour, 192 tons ; hides, 57 ; .tae_ati9Sk, 113-; cwt; potatoes, 31 tone; rope, 590 cwt; seeds (grass), 15,284 bushels ; seeds (other kinds), 2512 bushels ; wool, 122 bales. Sheep Rate. — A rate of 6s per five hundred sheep has been struck for the purpose cf paying the expenses of the Inspector of Sheep's department.
FbOTEAlx.—On Saturday last the Banks; and College played the Club; the latter won i the toss and took the North goal having the [ advantage of the wind. The club obtained two goale to their opponents one ; A. Ollivier and R. Ddbson kickiug for the former, and T. R. Moore for the latter. A meeting was held and the following gentlemen elected members of the club—Messrs Nalder, Gundry, Parsons, Glasson, Seaton, Sheath, Revan, Scarvell, Webb, Blakiston, Anderson, Macfarlane, Ballard, Lockhart, and Oliver. .
German Chuech.—Aβ the pastor for the, German Church — the Rev A. Lobr—hasi arrived by the Rakaia, a general meeting j of Germane will be held at Barrett's Hotel,! on Thursday evening next, to make the! necessary arrangements for opening the; Church. ! C.V.B.—The No 1 Volunteer Engineers will parade at the drill shed this evening,' for the purpose of inspection by the officer commanding the district. : 1.0.G.T. —The last session of the Hope of Christchurch Lodge'for the present term will at Gee's Bchoolroom, this evening, at 7.30 p.m, for the election of officers, &c. Deutscher Vebein.—A special meeting of the above will be held this evening, at Barrett's Hotel for the purpose of revising the rules. San Fbancisco Mail.—A late "Australasian " states that the mail steamer Mikado left San Francisco three days after her time. According to the accredited time table she was thus due at Auckland yesterday. .
Kaiapoi Fibe Engine.—This engine waa unpacked yesterday at Kaiapoi, under the direction of Captain Smith, and found to be in excellent condition. The members of the brigade present expressed themselves highly pleased with it. A public trial of its capabilities will be made shortly.
Obchestbal Society.—The next concert of this society, consisting of a very well-! selected programme of classical mnsic, will: be given at the Music Hall, on Thursday next. Kowai Pass Races.—We understand that these races have been postponed. Fire Bbigadb Pbacticb. —The quarterly practice of the Fire Brigade was held last evening. The steamer Extinguisher was; taken to the tank opposite Matheson's Agency; the hand-engine Dreadnought to the Borough Hotel tank, and the Deluge to Cobb and Sawtell's tank. The hook and ladder company were exercised on Cobb and Sawtell's premises. Both the steamers companies were practised in wet practice for about an hour, and all the brigade plant tested, which was found to be in good working order. The plant was then housed, and the men dismissed.
Sudden Death.—On last Saturday Mr John, Morrison, schoolmaster at Leithfield, died suddenly while in the act of dressing. He had been ailing for some time and under medical treatment. ,

[ Education al.— The examination of the scholars attending Mrs Ross 1 school, was' concluded yesterday, when the distribution, of prizes took place, after which the school broke up for the winter holidays. The following boys were the successful prizetakers :—I. class, B. R. L. Knight; 11., upper,; H. Hankinson Knight; 11., lower, H.Helmore; 111. class, C. Cotterill ; IV. class, H. Langdown. Prize for French—C. Newton ; physical science, E. R r L. Knight; music, R. Higgins ; drill, No 1 squad, W. Barker ; No 2 squad, E. Hughes; bouse prize, W. Herbert. Mb Inspector Pendeb.—This gentleman, who during twelve years has held the office of Inspector of Police for the Christchurch district, being about to be removed to Timaru, a meeting will be held this afternoon, at 8 p.m, in the room over Messrs Matson and Co's store, to devise some means of publicly recognising his valuable services; Throughout the whole of his official career, Mr Pender has, by his courtesy and efficient discharge of his duty, won golden opinions from every one. ; City Guards.—The City Guards will parade for inspection by the officer commanding the district, this evening, at 7.30 p.m.
Oxfobd Sunday School Tbeat.—Oii Thursday last the children attending the Church of England Sunday School at Oxford, assembled at the parsonage to enjoy their annual treat. The Rev F. F. Opie having obtained the consent of the district school committee to give the day school a half-holiday, invited all the children to joiij with those of the Sunday school in their amusements and tea. The scene around the parsonage from two o'clock until dark was exceedingly lively — nearly 100 children haying the means and doing their best to enjoy themeelves. Cricket, kiss-in-the-ring, racing and jumping for prizes, were among the amusements, and the afternoon passed only too quickly. The distribution of about twenty prizes to the successful competitors caueed great excitement among the juveniles. After a hearty tea and a lot of sweets had been disposed of, the children assembled id front of the parsonage, and were addressed kindly by the Rev Mr Opie, and requested to be more regular in their attendance at both day and Sunday schools. The rev gentleman then presented each child attending the Sunday school with a book, after which t- *ee hearty cheers were given by the for their kind minister, and they dlß P*sedto their homes.
