LYTTELTON.
The inhabitants of Lyttelton observed yesterday as a complete holiday, the storea being closed throughout the town, and all who could do so left either for Goyernor's Bay, Rangiora, or Christchurch. At 6 o'clock two guns were, fired to awaken those who intended' to go to the Oddfellows' and Foresters' pic-nic at Rangiora. At 7 a.m., the members of the various Lodges assembled, and at 7 30, beaded by the band, marched round the town to the railway sfcafcioa, where a special tra.in was in waitiug for them and their friends, and upwards of 600 persons proceeded by this train to Rangiora. The ordinary train from Christchurch brought a Jarge number of excursionists for Governor's Bay, both the s.s. Halcyon and Mullogh being crowded. The train was followed by a special train, and the ordinary, trains which were crowded. The steamers did a good trade. By 3 p.m. the town was entirely deserted. The harbor looked very gay daring the day, the ships displaying a profusion of bunting, and the various stores in the town were gaily decorated. Shortly before 5 p.m. the visitors commenced to return from Goyernor's Bay, and the resources of the railway were put to their fullest test to convey the excursionists to Christchurch.
