CANTERBURY RAILWAYS.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. SIX, —I see in your issue of this morning a letter from a " Traveller by Rail," who complains of something that ought to be corrected, but does not say what is is. If he means the non-issuing of " through tickets," which I am led to suppose he does, 1 quite agree with him. I consider that the public of Lyttelton and those north and south of Christchurch are not treated fairly. Do not the Government pay the Traffic Manager as a servant, and have they not a right to tell him to do a certain thing, and expect to see it done promptly 1 It really appears to mc as if our Kailway Manager is defying the Government to make him yield to the demand of the public. As I do not require " through tickets" very often, I will not waste any more of niy precious time upon so petty a matter. By inserting the above you will oblige the humble writer, as he is Your obedient servant, A Lytteltonian. Lyttelton, July 30th, 1873. [It is a pity that instead of flying into a passion and abusing the Railway Manager, our correspondents do not take the trouble to ascertain the facts. Through tickets are Issued from Lyttelton to Kaiapoi and Eangiora, and vice versa. We understand that if, after a reasonable trial, the result is such as to justify the large expense to the department, they will be issued to and from all the stations along the liDe. At present through tickets from Lyttelton are taken at the rate of about two per week. —Ed. " Press."]
