Sydney, July 24. A deputation has presented a petition, bearing a thousand signatures, in favor of a forty days' San Francisco service, costing £GB,OOO, instead of a forty-five days, at £48,000. In answer to the deputation of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr Farkes stated that the Government were in favor of the best San Fraacisco service. They did not anticipate that it would cost, after deducting postage, more than £20,000. • New Zealand had been offered the conveyance of the mail to Fiji, at the cost of sixpence per letter postage, the colony providing a branch service thence to Melbourne. The child murderess at Hotham is believed to be insane. The subscriptions in aid of the Eip are expected to reach £6000. Mr Higinbotham notifies a motion to add to the Electoral Bill a clause giving the franchise to adult females. Wade and Burke, merchants, Geelong, are charged with fraudulent insolvency. Adelaide. The Ministerial policy is not declared. Stone in the Northern Territory has yielded twenty to fifty ounces to the ton.
