High water at Lyttelton for the month of July, 1873 :— Date. a.in, p.m. 3t ... 9.0Z ... 9.24 A brig snpposed to be the Ben Nevis was coming up the harbor when our express left. The s.s. Maori sailed for Southern ports yesterday evening. The ship Agra got under weigh and Bailed for Newcastle on Tuesday evening. The schooners Canterbury and Esther, and the ketch Jupiter, sailed for their respective ports on Tuesday evening. The barque John Knox, Jenkins, from Sydney, arrived in harbor on 29th instant. Reports having left on July 11, had a fine ran across, making the land on 18th instant; experienced strong winds and squally weather ; passed through Cook's Straits on 21st; had strong southerly winds to the night of 25th, when she put into Port Underwood ; sailed hence on Sunday, reached the Heads on Monday night, blowing a strong S.W. gale, arriving as above; on. 20th spoke the brig Chanticleer, from this pore. Passengers—Mrs Jenkins and Mr Milliiier. The Fawn, brig, Anderson, from Newcastle, reports having left on the 11th instant; experienced moderate westerly winds to Cape Farewell, which was reached on 20th ; had N.W. winds to off Wellington ; on 21st met with a strong southerly gale, with very heavy seas, during which time the vessel sought shelter under Cape Campbell, and afterwards in Port Underwood; thence experienced northerly winds to the Heads, arriving as reported. The schooner Kafuma, says the "West Coast Times " of the 28th instant, Captain Maule, was towed down the coast yesterday by the Dispatch, and brought into harbor by the Lioness. She is from Lyttelton, which port she left on the 18th instant, with southerly winds, which she carried to Cape Campbell, and from thence light baffling winds to Stevens' Island, which was passed on Sunday at 2 a.m. ; from thence light easterly weather to sighting Cape Farewell light at 4 p.m., and there experienced a strong north east breeze, lasting about four hours. The wind then hauled to the south, blowing hard all Monday and Tuesday. When abreast the White Cliffs, a very heavy squall struck the vessel, blowing away the inner jib and staysail. The captain, finding himself too close in-shore to lay too, bore up, and Tan for Cape Farewell to repair sails, and left that shelter on Thursday, experiencing light baffling winds to the offing. The schooner Wild Wave was also towed into harbor yesterday astern of the Lioness. She is commanded by Captain Rae this trip, who reports having left Lyttelton on Thursday week fast, the 17th inst., and experienced light and variable weather until her arrival in . the roadstead yesterday morning, being towed in &8 above.
