AKAROA AND WAINUI.
A meeting of this Board was held at the Road Board office, Akaroa, on Saturday last the 26th instant, when the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letters from the Secretary for Public Works, dated 14th and ISth iustant respectively,' were read, stating that the Government are prepared to grant £60 to be expended in clearing and repairs to the Okaiu road, within the Akaroa andlWainui districts, and £100 for bridging the creeks and forminn- the road from Mr McDonald's land to that of Mr Rhodes at Waiuui. ' A letter was received from C. Mc Jonalu and others, residents of Wainui and French Farm Bay, stating that the proposed line of road round Brough's point would increase the distance to Wainui about one and a halt mi'es, and expressing their desire that the shorter and more direct line through Mr Townsend's sections may be decided on. I The Clerk was directed to reply to Mr 1 McDonald and others, to the effect that the
Board have not decided which of the two lines of road Bhould be recommended to the Government as the preferable one. A letter was received from residents of Bruce's terrace and neighborhood, requestthe Board to have that thoroughfare metalled : ami the clerk was instructed to repiv, stating that the Board cannot undertake tbc desired work at present. A letter was received from Mr W. N. McD'juild, sutiug that he was obsti;i*ted in t'-f frfe access to his land at the bead oi" (irt-hM Vailvy. Tito oierk was instructed to reply to Mr Mel>on;iYi. to the effect that if he was obstructed in a public highwaj the remedy whs iv his own har.ds. A tender was received from G- F. Stansbnry for metalline , on maia road, "Barry's Bay iiil!, and the Board decided to defer the acceptance of tenders ior this work ;is tbe road is not available for dray traffic, owing to the laud slips, and some alteration of the line is in contemplation. The clerk was instructed to call for tenders for clearing the Okain track within this distret to the chain width. Accounts to the amount of £79 11s 6d were passed for payment and the meeting then adjourned.
