THE OBJECTS of the COMPANY are to PROVIDE INCREASED FACILITIES for the NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING TRADE, by the Building, Purchasing, or Chartering First-Class Vessels suitable for the Trade of the Colony. *' The whole of the original capital— *' £100,000 —was speedily subscribed for and allotted in the Provinces of Canterbury. Otago, Wellington, and other parts of the colony. The failure of the Agent-General to obtain reasonable terms in London for the conveyance to the colony of emigrants and cargo having enabled the Directors to conclude a satisfactory contract with the Government in the colony for such service, it at once became necessary to largely increase the capital of the company with the view of placing it in an undoubted position to perform the contract, and otherwise extend its
operations. The Directors were strengthened in i c view by the fact that the Otago Freight f sociation had already joined the compa i ( that a large number of the late Welling f Association had become shareholders v j them, and that a strong probability exis s (since substantially realised) that the li . Zealand (Auckland) Freight Company wo . also amalgamate. c At a meeting of the shareholders held • Christchurch, on the 20th June, it was cided to increase the capital of the compi c to £250,000, by the creation of 15,000 I . shares of £10 each, to be issued at par, w t all the privileges belonging to the first iss B and to be allotted in the. discretion of r Directors. ' 2 Already, in anticipation of this annouc f ment, applications for a very large num ' of new Bhares have been received, thus affo 3 ing further substantial proof of the coi > dence reposed by the public in the New Z - land Shipping Company. , The success which has hitherto attenc ' the efforts of the promoters to establish ; Colonial Shipping Company on a basis su ciently wide and strong to enable them successfully oppose and check the power monopoly of Shaw, Saville, and Co., justil ! the Directors in appealing with confidence the public for their support. The Directors would specially appeal the wool and grain growero, and other p ducers, as well as to the mercantile comn nity, whether importers or exporters, for th aid towards an undertaking which must cc duce largely, both directly and indirectly, their benefit.
