AVON ROAD BOARD.
NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES. The nomination of candidates for the vacant seat on the Board, caused by the retirement of Mr C. W. Turner, who has left for England, took placo yesterday at the . Road Board office. The Chairman of the Board, Mr E. G. Wright, presided as Returning Officer. The two candidates were Messrs Cooper and W. Norman, Mr C. R. Blakiston and Mr A. W. Money having retired from the contest. There was a good attendance of ratepayers. The Returning Officer having read the clause of the Act relating to elections, called upon auy ratepayer to nominate a candidate. Mr Wm. Homer proposed Mr Wm. Norman as a candidate. Mr T. B. Tomes seconded the nomination. Mr ThomAa Palmeb proposed Mr Thomas Cooper as a candidate 1 Mr W. A. Chalmers seconded the nomi- | nation. The Chairman then called for a show of hands, which resulted as follows:— Mr Cooper 10 Mr Norman 7 The Returning Officer declared Mr Cooper duly elected ou the show of hands. Mr Tomes demanded a poll on behalf of Mr Norman. The poll was fixed to take place to-day between the hours of ten a.m and seven p.m. The proceedings then terminated.
