PAPANUI v. UNION.

The return match between the above j clubs was played on Saturday last, on Latimer square, and resulted in another victory for j the former cllib'by 40 runs. The captain of the Papanui Club having won the toss, sent their opponents in to the bowling of Matson and Davis, who soon succeeded in disposing of them, for- 25. runs.- . The Papanui "then went "in tO the bowling "of C. Frith and Dowlan, but the bowling being well, on the wicket,.they were disposed of for three runs less than the Unions: The Union Club again going in, showed steadier play than in their first innings,, having 31 runs to their credit, thus leaving the Papanui Club to get.3s.runs.to.win, a task they-succeeded in doing very easily,, the batting of Homer and Davis being very good indeed, until the latter was nicely caughF by Smith at midoff. The-bowling; of Ci l^ith'in o both -innings was very effective. Nothing much was done in7.he fielding, by either; side on j account of the rough state of the ground, but we ma. state thatthe fielding of T. Robson .or the Union was very bad indeed. , Appended is the correct score :— j —- nv<7_ ■:.. -'^t-_*AI>JAS'Vt: J -' v<i u '' •' ■ Ist Innings. 2nd Innings.* - Mayo, bC. Frith ...1 riot out ... 0 W.
