Present—His Worship the Major,/ Crs Hart, Williams, Ick, Jones and Hobbs. c A special meeting was held to consider thgi matter of borrowing £6000 on debentures, , Cr Ick moved, that the resolution' heagreed to. Cr Jones Becondod the motion, which was o agreed to, and the Town Clerk was inatracte* to take the necessary steps under the Ordi--|j nance. The ordinary business was then proceeded with. *.'.".,. upon him respecting the cab case, which had : recently been decided against the Council, and asked him whether the Council intendea to appeal. He (the Mayor) had told Pr Foster that the opinion of the Council w*s3 decidedly against appealing. The Council approved of the action takeu by his Worship the Mayor. A letter wasread from Mr H. Sawtell, re' gietting that his private business would re* quire hia attention, and forwarding the resignation of his seat as a member of tbs City Council. Cr Hobbs said it was with extreme regret that he had heard of the resignation of Cr Sawtell, as he regarded him as one of tne most useful men in the Council, and one wjw had done good service. Ever sines'he (••-* Hobbs) had been in the Council he tof looked upon Cr Sawtell aa ,a.;:vety eneirpp member and one whom they could ill aSoto to lose. ..
