CRICKET.

MARRIED v. SINGLE.

This return match was commenced on the TJ.C.C. ground on Saturday last. Wood and Pierce ; began the batting for the married men, and made a long stand, which would, have terminated much, sooner had not several chances been missed by the field. Pierce was eventually well caught at longslip, having played a very hard-hitting innings of 24, in which there was only one single. Stevens soon gave a chance in the slips, "and had to retire, but Fowler and Wood hit freely for a time* till Wood put one up. His 23 was an. excellent innings, both as regards hitting and defence, and was made without a chance till he was caught. Fowler now did all the hitting. He made a splendid square-leg hit for 4 off Souter, and drove Moore several times to the

on. He was clean bowled* 1 by a not very" difficult ball on his Teg stump. The, total ,of the innings . reached Il3; ! bnt it should be remarked chat the score was most carelessly kept, aud that j probably some 10 or 15 runs were missed. %he analysis.of th« bowling was not kept at j all"during part of the innings, and the analysis given below, though it can only be taken as an approximate one, may be depended upon as oeing pretty nearly correct. The fielding on the side of the single men was auythiug but good. Ollivier and Cotterill were first to represeut the single men, _h_'""ra_rt__'score up to 32 before the latter was bowled off his pads. His 14 included a good ou-drive for 5 Woutuer soon got out, but Souter and Ollivier kept up their wicket til the time arrived for drawing the stumps. Ollivier hit rather more -freely than he has done lately. ' r . Souter wa3 badly missed at third man. The following is the score of Saturday's play : — married. J. Wood, c Cotterill, b Souter 23 W.
