ROAD BOARDS.

AVON. The annnal meeting of the Board took place on Tuesday. There were present— The chairman (Mr Lame), and Messrs Homer, Dickinson, Cooper, and Searell. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

The Clerk reported that since last meeting amounts had been received and placed to the Board's credit in the Bank, viz., subscription for Holly road, £10 ; do from Mr Gonld, for Springfield road, £16 ; foothpath rate, £9 10s; Waimakariri rate, 1871, £1 143 5d ; Waimakariri rate, 1872, £3 Os Id ; general rate of 3d, £2 9s 3d ; refund, £1 ; total, £43 13s 9d. That accounts passed last meeting had been paid and vouchers signed for them. That the overdraft is £364 Is 7d, and other matters. The report was considered. Mr Sbareli, eaid he thought that_ tha time for polling was uot aufficient, and peas posed tblit Mr Wilkiu |o alter the time for polling hours, and from i> till 4, instead of 10 till 4, as intended. Mr Cooper seconded it. :, Mr Dickinson said he thought thcro vfas plcuty o£ time allowed, and would move as an amendment —"Thattho time' etnted remain as in the proposed advertisement." Mr Hornbr seconded.. , ■ , The amendment was put "and dart-led by 3 to 2. — Tenders for the formation and olajiog the Now Brighton road was opened, but the Board decided that in eonseqiienco of some of the tenders being informal.; their'consideration should be deferred till next meetiug, and in the meantime tho contractors wore to hare their attention drawn* to the conditions of the specification. . , . :

At the request of Mr Wilkin, the, returning officer appointed to conduct the (thniial election, the Board directed the clerk to ask Mr J. The Board decided to accept- the deposit, and directed the clerk to communicate with Mr Sycamore, and it he wese willing to do the work as per his offer, ; Jiejwas itf do it. A letter was read from th?Ctyj;jQquncii in answer to the Boards, jeojlejjt concerning the drain hear Mr Qresaou'e, drawing its attention to two letters pn the subject ot.the drainage of $he Belt., ,; :,. ~LjJ/ A letter was read from P'acko Brothers, requesting an answer to their letter,, of (the 13th August last concerning putting a trjidgo over the drain.
