Spirits ... 127 8 8 Tohaeco 45 0 0 Tea ... 14 13 0 Sundries 39 7 4 Total £226 9 0 The land sold to-day at the Waste Lands Board amounted to 820 acres, realising £1640. It is situated in the following districts :— Acres. Waitangi 750 Rakaia 70 Melbourne—The "Argus" of the 28th ult. reports :—ln the import markets an exceedingly dull, heavy day has been passed, and little has occurred to relieve the prevailing monotony. In breadstuff's there is no improvement whatever to report ; quotations for trade parcels of flour are maintained at £17 10s to £18, but sales are trifling; parcels of M'Guinness' are under treaty° at £17. At the auction sale this forenoon there was nothing whatever done ; all the flour and wheat offered had to be withdrawn, in consequence of the absence of millers and bakers usually present, but whose attendance was required at the County Court in an action in which they were interested. Outside the auction room there was nothing done in wheat; good samples are offering at from 6s 6d to 7s 6d, and very fair indeed can be got at 7s. Fears are beginning to be entertained that a continuance of such weather as we have had to-day may affect the crops. A private telegram from Adelaide states that the heavy rains of the three previous days will delay the harvest there a fortnight. Oats command a good deal of attention ; under the hammer 300 bags were disposed of at 3s 2-Jd to 3s 3d. Some 600 bags have been sold privately to go up country at 3s 3Jd, and auother line of 600 bags has been ' sold for local requirements at 3s 3d, all feeding descriptions. Maize is offering freely at 3s in quantity; there are buyers a shade under ; small sales are effected at 3a Id. Sugars are steady, but no transactions of any extent have reached us. We observe that the entire carpo of the Syren, from Batavia, comprising 9500 bags, will be sold on Friday. We note a good enquiry for fine and coarse salt, and trade sales are making more freely at full rates. In oil- ! men's stores we note the quittance of 250 i cases Whybrow's salad oils at up to 5s 9d i for half-pints and 9s 6d for pints. In liquids we hear of sales of four-grape Offley's port wine >»t £54. The wool sale at Messrs R. Goldsbrough and Co.'s warehouses was well attended, and buyers competed with spirit, the satisfactory advices about the advance obtained at the November sales in London having evidently imparted increased confidence. The catalogue comprised 3713 bales, of which 2615 baies were sold, greasy ranging from 10d to Is 3sd~ the latter price being obtained for 58 bales from Wando Vale ; fleece, Is 7d to 2s 3sd, the latter figure being realised for 154 oales from the Westward, branded Tara ; scoured raDged from Is BJd to 2s 6Jd per lb. These prices are fully up to last week's rates for ordinary to average clips, and for superior clips quotations are a shade higher. The "Australasian" of the 30tb ult. has the following weekly review of the Australian corn srarkct :•— ♦' In the produce market thU week a w«sfcer tegdeecj h» &$« cria_*d,
and few signs of life-have been apparent. In breadstuffe a considerable amount of dulnees is allowed to prevail. Flour in the. beginning of the week was quoted at £18 to £18 10s, but sales are noweffeced for the supply of trade wants at£l7 10s to £18. An attempt to sell flour by auction was madeyesterdav, but only trifling lot could be disposed of at the low figure of £17. Wheat likewise is very slow, notwithstanding stocks in millers'hands have run very low. On Thursday, under th_ hammer, about 300 bags dirty aud common Northern descriptions were cleared off at 7s to 7s Id. The Californian wheat ex Violette was offered yesterday, but bidders not coming up to holders' views, the whole was withdrawn. Quotations ranpc from 6s 9d io 7s 9d, according to quality. Mo<* of the late arrivals from South Australia have been stored for the present. Advices from England report a failure in the wheat crop, and a probable deficiency of 14 per ce_t., requiring a supplement a*ry sup*ply of 12.000,000 qrs In London there was little Adelaide wheat for sale on the market : t'ue quality whs not riist-rate. and in only moderate request at from Gos to 6fis per 4'.)61b landed. The arrivals from New Zealand were large, and of very pood quality, consequently most of it- was ("7.-.posed of at from 65s to 67s per 4%11>5. ami a few samples of exceptionally nuc quality brought as much as 68s. Of Adelaide flour there was very little left likewise, and quotations ranged from 45s to 48s per bag. Oats have been selling very j freely, but owing to the paucity of supplies, | the sales effected, though numerous enough, have generally been small. On Thursday, j about 3000 bushels were disposed of by auction at 3s 2d to 3s 2£d and 3s 3d. On Monday, one line of 300 bags good feeding was placed at 3s 3d. Yesterday, a line of 1000 bags feeding was quitted at 3s 3d. *For a shipment of 900 bags milling as imuch as 3s 6d was obtained. Under the hammer about 2000 bushels feeding were cleard off at 3s 2£d to 3a 3d. Quotations range from 3s 2-Jrt to 3s 4d for feeding, and up to 3s 6d for milling sorts. Barley is in short supply. Feeding sorts would meet a ready sale at 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; for malting we quote 6s 6d to 6s 9d. We believe the balance of the Violette's shipment, about 5000 bushels, has been cleared off at a full price. Maize has not improved in value, notwithstanding late purchases. Sales are making at 3s OJd for parcels, and we cannct quote over 3s Id for small lots. Bran has been moving off at Is sd, and pollard has realised Is 4d to Is 6d. For Victorian made oatmeal £20 to £21 has been obtained. Messrs Hastings, Cunningham, and Co. report that at a recent sale some prime parcels of New Zealand hides fetched up to 6d per lb.
Adelaide. —A telegram in the "Argus" of the 28th ult. says :—New wheat, deliverable on 15th December, has been sold at ss. Flour dull, unchanged. Cornsacks have been disposed of at 17s.
