LYTTELTON. Saturday, August 17. (Before W. Donald, Esq., K.M.) Dog-Stealln t g. — Dennis Caverly was charged with stealing a dog, the property of Messrs Talbot. McClutchie and Co. SeTgeantMajor Barshman said lie met the accused with a dog in his arms at eleven o'clock the preceding evening, and having doubts as to whether the animal belonged to him, he questioned him, and as the prisoner gave him evasive answers, he arrested him. It appeared from the evidence of Mr Talbot, that the dog belonged to one of the vessels belonging to the firm. He stated that he did not wish to press the charge. The Bench sentenced prisoner to fourteen days hard labor.
